SINGAPORE: Three members of a group which allegedly helped a student cheat in the GCE O-Level examination on Monday were charged in the State Courts on Friday (Oct 28).

The group allegedly helped a male student named Chen Yi, who was sitting for the GCE O-Level English Paper 1 examination at Tampines Secondary School on Oct 24 at 1.30pm. Chen is believed to have been taking the exam as a private candidate.

Chinese national Feng Riwen, 24, and Singaporean Poh Min Fiona, 29, are charged with abetting an offence of cheating, by engaging Chen and other conspirators to cheat the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB).

The other conspirators were named in a charge sheet seen by Channel NewsAsia as Tan Jia Yan, Poh Yuan Nie @ Pony Poh and other unknown people.

The pair had allegedly deceived SEAB into believing that Chen was taking the examination without assistance from the conspirators, in order to fraudulently induce SEAB to accept his answer script as a legitimate submission for marking. If found guilty and convicted, they could be jailed for up to three years and/or fined.

They were also slapped with a second charge, for perverting the course of justice by instigating Chen Yi to leave Singapore in order to avoid investigation. Under the second charge, they face a jail term of up to seven years and/or a fine, if found guilty and convicted.

A third individual, Singaporean Wong Mee Keow, 38, was charged with obstructing the course of justice by deleting photos of Poh Yuan Nie @ Pony Poh from her handphone in order to prevent the police from identifying Poh, who was being sought for an investigation. She could be jailed for up to seven years and/or fined if found guilty and convicted.

Feng and Poh were arrested on Oct 26, while Wong was arrested on Oct 27. All three accused will next appear in court on Nov 4.
