People need to take a chill pill. Many PAP apologists in the media and other people who don't agree with the PAP think the GRC will be abolished for the next GE.

The GRC system has served the PAP very well. In the past elections, it has gotten many PAP candidates into Parliament, people who would have lost in SMCs. It was designed to make it tough on the oppo by forcing them to come up with a slate of candidates that met the requirement. At that time, the PAP did not think it was playing with fire as they were intimidating and terrorizing the potential oppos candidates into not running. Now, they realise its a double edged sword.

But will they get rid of it? No. If this elections had been run with an only SMC system, and if the PAP had continued to field the quality of candidates that they have, at least 10 or more oppo candidates would have won. First tier People like Nicole Seah, Yaw, CST, Chen, LTK, Sylivia Lim, Tan Jee SAy, should win easily if facing average PAP candidates. Than there are the second tier oppo candidates that also stand a good chance of winning, though it would be a much tougher fight for them, and I am referring to GMS, Lena, Vijey, jeyaratnam, Alec Tok, Yee Jenn Jong, Steve Chia, Teo Soh Lung, Hazel Poa, Glenda han, james gomes, etc.

Finally, there is a 3rd category of PAP candidates that people will lan lan not vote for unless they are dye in the wool PAP. These people will lose regardless of who the oppo throws in there, and we are talking about TPL, WKS, Foo Mee Har, Chan Chun SIng, MBT, Puthucheary, Teo Ser Luck, Lim Hwee Hua, Vivian, Charles Chong, and maybe Yaacob, and Lim Swee Say.

If we say all first tier oppo wins, than that is already 7 seats. If half of the second tier win, that is another 6 seats. If 50% of the third category PAP candidates lose, that is another 6 seats to the oppo. Total yield is 19 seats to the oppo.

If you look at the guaranteed for sure will win on the oppo side, u have already 7 seats. The guaranteed for sure to lose on the PAP side is already 6 seats. That is 13 right there, double what they won. The interesting thing is that George Yeo would have probably won his seat if he fought in a SMC. Based on this, I don't see how the PAP will even consider eliminating the GRCs. They may gerrymander it, they will not get rid of it for sure. Who the hell want to perpetrate the Lee dynasty by voting for a kid like Li Hongyi, if he was to run in a SMC?

I believe the GRC system is here to stay too

PAP needs to connect to the young (20s to 30s) to have any chance of winning big next elections

The paper scholar system and FT has created a lot of misunderstandings and hardship for these people

For sure, u just count all the PAP candidates that would have lost. WKS, MBT, TPL, Chan Chun Sing, Charles Chong, Fook mee hard, Khaw Boon Wan, Lim Hwee Hua, Lim Swee Say, yaacock, probably Zainal, puthucheary, one of the Teos (Ser Luck or Chee Hean). Like that over 10 seats go to the oppos already.
