STOMPer Michelle is not satisfied with the SMRT's response regarding underutilised shuttle trains that run from Jurong East to Yew Tee during peak hour. The STOMPer feels that SMRT is not properly allocating its resources during the peak periods.
STOMPer Xavier had earlier contended that the shuttle trains running from Jurong East to Yew Tee were underutilised and delaying trains bound for Marina Bay, causing more unnecessary waiting during peak hour.
SMRT responded that train services are carefully planned and reviewed according to travel demand.
In an email, Michelle said:
"I agree with what was mentioned in an article posted in June, about underutilised MRT shuttle trains. That is why I cannot accept SMRT's response.
"I work in the Boon Lay area. Every day, I take the train from Boon Lay to Jurong East, then I transfer circuits and take a train on the North South Line back to my home.
"At around 6.26pm (evening peak hour period) yesterday (June 30), I took a photo of an underutilised shuttle train. It terminates at Yew Tee MRT Station. From the photo, one can clearly see that only a few commuters were on board the shuttle train - lots of empty seats were available.
"According to the reply from SMRT, train services are planned and reviewed after careful consideration of travel demand, as well as the need to optimise train operations and efficiency.
"However, I doubt SMRT practises careful planning and reviewing. The train was practically empty, which means the travel demand was not that high at all, as compared to the demand for trains travelling towards Marina Bay.
"What a funny, yet bad excuse SMRT has given in their official reply.
"I wonder how SMRT will explain itself this time around, with another image of a severely underutilised train in an article of complaint."
