A woman in Singapore was shocked when the ride-hailing car she was in started shaking violently and making a loud noise.
In a TikTok about the ride, she wrote: "Grab ride or earthquake simulator?"
The user, whose handle is viviann.goh, told 8world that she later learnt that the car tyre had blown, but the driver said it was okay to continue driving. In response to Mothership's queries, Grab apologised for the GrabHitch ride experience and said it has suspended the driver.
A scary ride
Goh was in the car sometime between 1pm and 2pm on Feb. 5, when she noticed something was not right.
In her video, the car was noticeably vibrating, but the driver continued driving and even appeared calm."Was honestly scared for my life," she said in the TikTok caption.
After a while, the problem became worse, and the driver asked Goh if she would mind if they took a detour so he could get the tyre changed.
But she did not want to wait that long.Asked to be dropped off
She asked him to drop her off at a nearby bus-stop, and she would take the bus to her destination instead. When she got off the car, she saw that the car tyre appeared badly damaged.
There was no rubber around it, only metal, she told 8world.
She added that the incident had messed up all of the plans she had that day.
As she had paid for the ride in full in cash, she decided to request a refund from Grab.Grab shared that it has reached out to her to provide a full refund.
Grab's response
Grab said it will only consider reinstating the driver's account after his car has been professionally inspected and rectified."Safety is our top priority," the company said. "We ask that drivers ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy as well as compliant with Grab’s code of conduct and local regulatory requirements before accepting any bookings."
They also encourage passengers to report any concerns about their rides to Grab via channels such as the in-app Help Centre, so that they can take prompt action.Top images from viviann.goh/TikTok
