Public Service contributed to turnaround in Singapore's economy: DPM Teo

Minister in Charge of Civil Service Teo Chee Hean has paid tribute to public service officers, citing their hard work in contributing to the turnaround in Singapore's economy.

Speaking at the Public Service Awards ceremony on Friday, Mr Teo, who is also Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister, said the Singapore Public Service took on the challenges and difficulties in 2009 with "great resolve" and "fortitude". He said that working together with the country's political leadership, a collective effort was made to find practical solutions to the challenges.

Singapore's economy has registered an impressive 15.5 per cent growth in the first quarter of this year, and is projected to grow by 7 per cent to 9 per cent for 2010.

Mr Teo said; "This ability to work as one networked government is one of the reasons why the Singapore Public Service is effective and distinctive compared to many other public services in the world. We must remain committed to serving and engaging our citizens as best as we can.
"To do so, we need public officers who are willing to go the extra mile, and public sector organisations that will constantly seek new ways to improve and innovate, and to create greater value for the public."

At the ceremony on Friday evening, 303 awards were were given to officers and agencies in recognition of their service and organisational excellence.

Five members of the public who had made significant contributions as customers were also honoured.

The ceremony also saw Mr Teo launching a the book "Pioneers Once More: The Singapore Public Service 1959-2009", which celebrates the achievements and challenges faced by public officers in shaping the country's development.

I suggest Changi Airport put a loud advertisement with words:

WELCOME TO SINGAPORE, A UNIQUE COUNTRY WITH SELF-PRAISE GOVERNMENT not found anywhere in the world.

and when they continue praising themselves long enough, they start to think it is true. :D

There's no real civil servants in Singapore. They are civil serpents.

The MIW is one of the most thick-skinned govt in the world,as thick as the elephant skin.In short, shameless !!!where got people in the world praise oneself until like that ??? really got no class !!!KNNCCB to the lanjiao faced MIW ministers !!!

Civil servants? Have you seen any behaving like one? Civil masters more likely! Lazy and proud. That's how they behave. Especially if you are their vendors. Will squeeze you dry and ask for freebies

The boss must praise the worker what!. Election coming you know, the Civil servants are free workers for the election & voters also. You don't praise them, they all will vote for Goh Meng Seng...ha ha ha ha

What's the tease again, when we are young?, "yellow, yellow dirty fellow" ( never knew the meaning of this..you guys know?) , "SELF PRAISE INTERNATIONAL DISGRACE".

with only one ruling party they have no choice but to 'do or die' and since GLC owned more than 700 companies in Singapore, practically whole economy is PAP businesses so public services must fully supported the only few top businessman that is LKY and LHL, what else?

Those top civil serpents are the most useless. Only know how to apple polish to enrich themselves and the Lee Family.

They may be thick skin and they know it.

BUT, if you tell a lie a hundred time over, in the papers, on TV, on radio, some people will actually believe it.

They are doing just that, they also notice the most Sinkies are gullible, cowardly and ignorant, You try that in other real 1st world country, you get shot down by their own people and loose vote in the next election.

Over here, the more you lie and distort the truth, the more votes you get.
