Times have changed. I could not help but notice that many people actually start to jog, cycle or go to Gym when they reach middle age. They also start eating sensibly. People are living longer. Now can see fit looking uncle and aunties. I once saw this uncle in the gym going all out. Complimented him and he told him he woke after his triple bypass. Also told me that his sex life shot up and he was not going to give that away.

The uncle told you that his sex life shot up because your wife told him that yours has plummeted down.

Yes I believe consciousness exists in everything down to the quarks and leptons.

I also believe it is consciousness that forms physical reality.

read this as a collective consciousness that living things possess, notwithstanding to the consciousness of the physical self. are unicellular organisms conscious of their existence? are atoms and molecules aware of their own existence?

there is no consciousness in quarks and leptons
they are created by the human consciousness
there is nothing, absolutely nothing in space
but human gives consciousness to these inanimate things
and they become alive
in fact they are nothing
but moments of our own consciousness
if there is no human consciousness
it is one darkness and emptiness - a great void
we give form to emptiness
and the emptiness becomes form
we are the ones who give the universe
and the galaxies the consciousness

when one dies, does one dies alone or does the world dies with oneself?
likewise, when one is born, does one comes alive or does the world comes alive with oneself?

One's consciousness does not terminates at death. One brings along his world and all of its imprints with that departed consciousness.

Upon birth, that consciousness and those imprints at its death begins into becoming.

Gut feeling.. they're growing so many "body part materials" from stem cells these days.. wonder if the day where a heart transplant/ heart grown from stem cell/ body parts renewed/ etc will ever come.. hmmm....

In the meantime, love and cherish your parents before they leave this world!

do you define consciousness as the awareness of oneself

Yes.It is awareness of oneself when one is in a living state.but in the case of death, that awareness is muted but is not destroyed.

Consciousness is highly personal and subjective.one's consciousness of his immediate surroundings differs from individuals.

how do you know that the awareness is muted and not destroyed?:confused::confused:
if the awareness is transferred, does it transfer from one to another? or one to many? or many to one?

Good one.. is our consciousness and self awareness just a creation. In fact, we may just be a single cell organism having a dream that we are something else and that all that we see hear and touch is imaginary...

Probably go watch the matrix now..

it all boils down to consciousness and awareness
if we do not have any sense of consciousness
we see nothing but darkness
if we have awareness, mindfulness and enlightenment
what we see may be forms and objects
but our consciousness will remind us that
the forms we see are actually emptiness
they are just like the mirage, the morning dew, the phantom
all these will disappear
so there is anatta, anica and dukkha:smile:

Anicca, anatta and dukkha are known in Buddhism as the three marks (or seals) of existence.

These three qualities are inherent in all phenomena (phenomena means, in broad terms, something that appears in our field of experience -- thoughts, feelings, perceptions, impulses, etc.).

Anicca means that all phenomena are constantly in flux -- nothing is fixed. While we sometimes use the English term "impermanence" to mean that everything comes to an end, anicca goes beyond that to observe that nothing is ever the same, from moment to moment.

Anatta means that we have no fixed, persistent self. What we call our "self" is actually a collection of physical and psychological states, all of which are subject to anicca. Because these states are always in flux, there is nothing we can point to as a permanent self.

Dukkha, which is usually translated as "suffering," actually means that all phenomena are fundamentally dissatisfying. The constant flux of phenomena (anicca) works against our clinging tendencies. This produces dissatisfaction (dukkha).

Perhaps it's most important to understand that anicca, anatta, and dukkha are observable facts about the world. When the Buddha taught the three marks, he wasn't setting out an interesting theory -- he was reporting what he discovered through careful observation of how the mind functioned.

When people begin meditation practice, the three marks can seem like interesting but abstract ideas. But as a person's practice deepens over time, the truth of anicca, anatta, and dukkha appears as concrete reality.

Lao-tsu, the Chinese author of the Tao te Ching, also saw the truth of these marks -- long before Buddhism came to China. And so he wrote: "When you understand that everything always changes, there is nothing you will try to hold onto."

So, in the deepest sense, the three marks are hallmarks of all human experience, not just some interesting teaching of Buddhism. When we directly perceive their truth, then our lives become profoundly joyous and spacious.
