SingTel shown the red card
Business owners say mio TV telecasts has time lag compared to StarHub's

By Woo Sian Boon and Danson Cheong

Telecasts of the World Cup matches from SingTel come with a slight time lag.

Fans watching at eateries or pubs subscribing to SingTel's mio TV find that those watching on StarHub get to see goals earlier.

This means that if there are two neighbouring outlets, one subscribing to SingTel and the other to StarHub, cheers from the latter erupt while fans at the former may still be seeing the ball far from the goal.

The delay is about five seconds.

Now the operators of some of these outlets have decided enough is enough and switched to StarHub.

SingTel's mio TV is delivered via Internet Protocol TV networks. A source familiar with the technology explained that the lag was due to delays in encoding the transmission signals.

A SingTel spokesman told The New Paper that it was aware some businesses have been affected by the delay in the broadcast.

but dey r not aware dat their own biz oso affected by ze same delay in ze broadcast? ...

Have Sinktel ever commented about their time lag compared to Starhub. They will never give an explanation because the reality is they can't do anything for now at least. Singtel tele DSL more suited for internet than cable tv and Starhub cable line vice versea.

I sometimes listen to BBC radio for EPL and Starhub broadcast is at least 3 seconds slower than BBC. This time lag is really intolerable in live sports.

Time lag is because they want to filter unwanted scene/audio if someone F@#K PAP.
Is not the due to delays in encoding the transmission signal.
That is the reason. How long they need to decoding maybe only less than 1 sec.
Singtel/Starhub should have powerful computer will do the jobs less than 0.5 sec.
The 5 sec or more delay is to filter unwanted news. Before any viewer could see it they already replace some ad for replacement.
5 can make lot of different to those bet online on live game and also can have time to filter.
