Singapore no longer least corrupt, but dip 'insignificant'

Singapore lost its No. 1 spot on Thursday to become the fifth least-corrupt nation in the world, in the latest annual ranking by non-governmental corruption watchdog Transparency International (TI).

But it remains the least corrupt in Asia, ahead of Australia, Hong Kong and Japan.

TI officials and experts were quick to point out that the change in its ranking was not statistically significant, and that Singapore's reputation for clean, honest and efficient government remains intact.

Mr Liao Ran, who oversees TI's rankings for East Asia, said the emphasis should be on the score, rather than the ranking.

Selected rankings

THE score relates to the degree of corruption in the country or territory as perceived by experts or their residents. It ranges from zero (highly corrupt) to 10 (least corrupt). Last year's rankings are in brackets.

I'm surprise that Spore was even #1 in the past
Shows that there is a problem in how they interpret the data.

redraw boundaries for election is considered honest and clean. change the rules and law as and when the old fart see fits is considered honest and clean.. amazing sinkieland and sinkies.

that is why it is always good to avoid sinkies at ALL costs.

next time they take the dollar that you drop on your feet and pick it up in front of you and say that the money is his and he is considered honest and clean..

It's perception, my friend. Nothing to do with hard, objective data. :)

SG will still be the least corrupted country in the world if not for the 2 SLA guys. They brought the whole country down:mad::mad::mad:
