Escalators in MRT stations should not be functioning like staircases.

The main issue is that those doing so are overburdening the escalators.

Also, commuters who are right-handed will then be able to hold on to the railings on the right without having to move to the left to make way for those wishing to "walk" on the escalators.

Disallowing people from walking on the escalators will lead to normal usage of the machines, which would help in reducing the frequency of breakdowns.

in sg i stand to the left. in u.s. i stand to the right. in china i use the stairs.

In sg, people like Gan Kok Tiong wants to stand on the right because he is righthanded and therefore wants to use his right hand to hold the rails. Half the people stand on the left, and some don't really care which. A lot of times, it is impossible to walk on the escalators since both lanes would be blocked by the leftists and rightists.

Hence, most escalators don't break down so often.

He should learn how to be ambidextrous, clearly he's using only his right hand, but not his left hand, right brain and left brain.
