Court fines Singaporean 'influencer' RM1,000 for false abduction claim​

JOHOR BARU: A Singaporean woman who falsely claimed she was nearly abducted at a shopping mall in the state capital on Jan 14 was fined RM1,000 by the magistrate's court here today.

The accused, Amyra Laila Ho, pleaded guilty to lodging a false police report under Section 182 of the Penal Code before magistrate Hidayatul Syuhada Shamsudin.

Failure to pay the fine would have resulted in a three-week jail sentence. She has since paid the fine.

Amyra had earlier claimed that two individuals attempted to abduct her while she was walking near a shopping complex popular among Singaporeans.


Her allegations were posted on her TikTok account and went viral.

The post was also picked up by Singapore-based media outlets.


She claimed that two individuals approached her near the mall on Jan 14 under the pretence of promoting their products.

She said they gave her a sample to sniff, which made her dizzy, before attempting to abduct her. However, her screams alerted passers-by, who came to her aid, and the alleged kidnappers fled the scene.

Yesterday, Johor police chief Datuk M. Kumar confirmed that a 45-year-old Singaporean woman, who had claimed an abduction attempt at KSL City Mall, Taman Abad, would be charged for making a false report.
