It's not that some people will not get the maximum amount. What is the max amount? $1200? $1600?
It is clear that only self-employed people who earn at most a small employment income will benefit from the $9,000 cash handout.
For the rest, the amount is nowhere near that. That includes employees, as well as people who run businesses, and also self-employed who earn more than $2,300 per month in side employment income.
The amount for the rest of the population is pathetic. The max is $1,200 or $1,600 straight cash depending on your household/income. The rest are in the form of GST offsets, U-save rebates, etc, which also have other qualifying criteria.
Compare this to Canada. Everyone gets $2,000 per month for four months. No qualifying criteria. No differentiation based on income or household.
Even fucked up Malaysia gives $500 to everyone. Over 4 months, that comes out to even more than our fucking pathetic $1,200 or $1,600 cash disbursement.
The majority of the $62 billion is given to businesses as wage offset. That will not prevent some retrenchment or pay cuts from taking place.
