Driver who taunts another ends up crashing his car
SINGAPORE - A video that captured a driver taunting another but ended up crashing into the road shoulder has gone viral online.
The video, first uploaded onto YouTube and then shared on a popular car forum, showed a blue Kia Koup side-swiping the driver's car at 3.28am, March 11 along the Central Expressway (CTE) to Seletar Expressway.
Citizen journalism website Stomp also carried an edited version of the video and a report, which received over 15,000 views.
From the video, the light touch knocked the car into the central divider and sent it into a spin. The car ended up crashing into the road shoulder. The Kia Koup reportedly sped away without stopping.
The forum poster who goes by the nickname Jammo89, claimed to be the brother of the driver whose car crashed.
He said that he hoped that by posting in the forum, someone who knows the driver of the Kia Koup will get the person to step forward or surrender to the Traffic Police.
Initially Internet users were on the side of poster Jammo89. But some other users had their doubts and called the poster's brother to task for repeatedly spraying the Kia Koup with windshield fluid.
An unedited version of the video (see screengrabs below) showed the Kia Koup travelling on the overtaking lane and Jammo89's brother behind in another car along the CTE, heading towards SLE. The timestamp then was at 03.27:57, March 11.
In the video, Jammo89's brother was held back by the Koup which seemed to be travelling slower than cars in other lanes.
Close to 30 seconds later, Jammo89's brother switched to lane 2 and overtook the Kia Koup. The brother then sped up and switched back to the overtaking lane. In the process, he started to "clean" his windshield. This happened on and off for close to a minute.
The Kia Koup then sped up and overtook Jammo89's brother, side-swiping his car. In the process, the car spun and hit the shoulder of the expressway.
A Stomp contributor who claimed that he was the driver of the van which appeared near the end of the video, said the spun car had hit his van. He has since made two insurance claims: one against Jammo89's brother and the other against the driver of the Kia Koup.
Since the incident exploded online, Jammo89 has removed the in-car video on YouTube. However Internet users who were irritated by the lack of transparency on Jammo89's part reposted the video on YouTube.
Many users on the popular car forum also claimed to have reported the two drivers and submitted the video to Traffic Police.
