Hey bro well said. I am also a supporter of all traditional festivals in all its manifestations. The celebration is somewhat muted nowadays because of all these rules and regulations. To me, Thaipusam celebration is incomplete without all the music accompaniments. In fact, the louder the better! Once a year celebration and still so restrained and constrained! No evidence that this will cause crime rates to escalate.
go and read the papers . you are so wrong. these bastards were making noise and loudspeakers at 3-4 AM!!!!!!. farking shit everyone is sleeping except them and you must have these noise, loudspeakers, drumming etc at 4 am to wake up everyone in the neighbourhood and you call it thaipusam celebration???even in malaysia and india they do not make noise at 4 am. I have never ever seen lion dance drumming done at 4 am. everyone is sleeping except these bastards. just show inconsiderate these assholes are.
It's has nothing to do with religious rights . It has to do with noise pollution and disturbing others who have to go to school, kids who have exams the following morning, workers who have work.to do, elderly with illness who need a sound sleep etc , go and farking wake up your reading skills

The police on Wednesday night clarified claims made by a Facebook user alleging that a police officer and a Hindu Endowments Board (HEB) official disrupted a group's kavadi procession during Thaipusam.

The Facebook post, made on Monday, was shared at least 3,000 times in less than three days.

In a statement to clarify the matter, the police said they are aware of the incident, which took place on Wednesday last week at about 4am.

"Some participants in a group of about 16 were singing, amplified through portable loudspeakers and playing musical instruments," the police said. An HEB official advised them to stop as it was not permitted under the Thaipusam permit conditions.

However, one of the participants challenged the HEB official by claiming that what they were playing were not musical instruments, said police.

The group eventually complied and continued with the procession.

But at around 4.30am in Selegie Road, near the Selegie Housing Board estate, the same group resumed singing and used portable loudspeakers to amplify their voices.

"HEB officials and police officers engaged the group a second time, and advised them to lower (their) volume," police said, adding that they had received a noise disturbance complaint related to the Thaipusam procession earlier in the night.

Each of the two engagements with the group was no longer than 10 minutes, police added.

In Monday's post, Facebook user Pradeep Thana claimed the police officer and HEB official took videos of every person in the group and followed them for "a good 30 minutes".

The police denied these allegations, calling them "patently untrue". "Police officers and HEB officials were accommodative during the engagements despite the group having broken the law and challenging them," the police added in their statement.

The restriction on playing musical instruments along the Thaipusam procession route was introduced in 1973. It was relaxed in 2011 and devotees are allowed to sing religious hymns along the route if no amplification devices are used.

Static music transmission points were allowed in 2012 to broadcast music to devotees. The number of music points allowed has increased from two in 2012 to 23 last year. Since 2016, three live music points have been allowed along the procession route.

This year's route had devotees walking from Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple in Serangoon Road to Sri Thendayuthapani Temple in Tank Road, about 3km away.

HEB chief executive Raja Segar apologised for the distress caused in a Facebook reply on Tuesday. He urged affected individuals to reach out to the board, and asked for comments to be "reserved until (they) find resolution".

farking shitskins liars!!!!
they conveniently forgot to tell you it is 4am that they are making a hell of a noise right in the middle of a HDB housing estate with thousands of residents sleeping.
they do it intentionally to harrass and bully everyone and deprive everyone sleeping any rest. kids who need to go for school or take an exam the following morning would be affected. where are these bastards now. farkers. nobody make noise at 4 am. everyone else lion dance or even funeral procession is done in morning or afternoon. Only shitskins have to make noise at 4 am and when told not to these farkers create a big fuss and lie and twist their words like snake till it become as if the police were harrassing them when in actual fact they were harrassing the police and thousands of others who were sleeping. farking bastards. I support the police in this instance, they should have tasered them or water cannon them. farking kiars, cheaters, trouble makers. even in malaysia they do not make noise at 4 am.no other religious groups do.
