Singapore Lions rejoins Malaysia Cup!!!

I think they are only going to send the young lions which I am fine with. I also think it's ridiculous to have a NATIONAL TEAM playing someone else's STATE team.

In any case I don't suppose most of you have been following the M-league scene since we left. The standard of the teams are no better then S-league teams, S-league teams have consistently perform just as well if not better then M-league teams in regional tournaments and corruption in M-league have gotten from bad to worse

bro, lest u need reminding...Malaysia won the Suzuki Cup whereas Singapore fail to beat Pinoy !

Our S-league is so desperate - include Etoile and as a result cannot play in Asian Champions League !

Tell me, what has derived from S-league? Can any brudders here realistically name us the starting lineup of our national team?

Yes, rivalry between Mudland and Singapore always works...it is a way to draw crowds, and the team players will be motivated to play harder. And with this move of merging / having more integrating between Singapore and Mudland...please kick out Etoile and other non-Sinkie team out of the S-league so that S-league can become a breeding grounds for future talents. Etoile fo example is using S-league as dumping ground / proving ground for future talents - these players have next to zero interest to pull a Lions shirt in future.

So, already, the formula of having Etoile and other non-Singapore teams has failed to draw crowds, and deprive us of playing in Asia Champions League...why are we still heading down this path?

And if the Sports Hub ever materialise, it will be a nice event - of course, the planners don't be so daft to schedule it to clash with EPL broadcast.

Has Singapore become one of the states of Malaysia - like Johore or Kedah? Why are we in the Malaysia Cup? We should be playing international soccer against Malaysia or Brunei or Indonesia. If we, as a sovereign country, cannot play soccer at international level then we should find the right people to up our standard. Why play against states of Malaysia? No standard.

first of all, there need to be a difference btw club and national soccer. I believe this is on a club-level basis - just that, thanks to the stupid format of S-league, U23 lions or young lions is registered as a club.

technically, it should be viewed as a club.

National level competitions are not easy to organise, because the Mudland national team will comprise players playing for various clubs - and to have a national team match, means clubs must release their players ahead of time, blah blah according to FIFA rules and FAM for example must make payment / compensation if injury happens, etc.

So, a tie - up of club vs club is the best at the moment. And dun be surprised, It is not put money take money sure bet that Young Lions can beat a KL team (with foreign players etc) - if so, they would be winning the S-league and Etoile.

I've had this argument before. The performance of a national team have little to nothing to do with the standard of their domestic leagues. Going by the logic, if the performance of a national team is indication of how high the standard of a domestic league is then the domestic leagues in the following countries Japan, Korea, US, Ghana, Slovakia, Chile, Mexico, Paraguay and Portugal are all superior to the French Ligue 1 and the Italian Series A since all the above teams went further in the World Cup then France or Italy

A better way to gauge the standard of domestic leagues are by regional club competition e.g. the Champions League. AFC have regional tournaments which both the M-league and S-league teams participate in and we have consistently done as well if not better then M-league teams hence there isn't really very huge gaps in standards between the 2 leagues

As for the foreign teams causing us to lose our spot in Asian Champions league and the low crowd, that's more an organizational and marketing problem then a problem with the standard of football since as mentioned above, the standard of the local league is not anywhere lower then the standard of the M-league

Anyway I agree, swapping clubs between the 2 leagues is good for marketing and crowd attraction. Maybe they should look into merging the 2 leagues
