Senior CPIB officer charged with stealing S$1.76 million engages lawyer
In an unexpected turn of events, a senior anti-corruption officer who is accused of stealing some S$1.76 million in government funds showed up in court on Tuesday with a lawyer in tow.

Edwin Yeo Seow Hiong, 39, who served with the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) as its head of field research and technical support, indicated last month when he was first slapped with 21 charges of financial impropriety that he did not plan to engage a lawyer to defend him.

Yet, former deputy public prosecutor Tan Hee Joek, currently a partner at Tan See Swan & Co, confirmed with Yahoo! Singapore on Tuesday that he was engaged by Yeo, albeit declining to say when in the past month he was hired.

In court on Tuesday, Tan asked for an additional month to receive further instructions from Yeo, and had Yeo's $500,000 bail extended until his case is next mentioned on 19 September.

Last month, Yeo was slapped with 21 charges of misappropriating and misuse of funds, criminal breach of trust and forgery that allegedly took place between 2008 and last year.

According to the CPIB, Yeo was in mid-September last year suspended and interdicted from his position as head of field research and technical support at CPIB to assist in a Commercial Affairs Department (CAD) probe into his suspected financial impropriety.

Eight of these were for misappropriating funds and criminal breach of trust, one was for forgery and the rest were in using part of his ill-gotten gains to gamble at the Marina Bay Sands (MBS) casino.

While in active duty at the CPIB, Yeo is said to have stolen the $1.76 million between 2008 and August last year. He is known to and believed to have spent a total of slightly more than $240,000 at the casino between 4 May and 8 September last year, around which time the bureau first caught wind of his alleged activity.

Among the charges are instances of Yeo swiping more than $700,000 in cash and $470,000 from a CPIB bank account. He was also said to have gambled at MBS at least 12 times, with transactions recorded from his POSB bank account ranging from $8,250 to $45,550 used for that purpose.

Since then, said public prosecutors, about $67,000 has since been recovered from that amount.

In court then, he pleaded with the District Judge to give him an additional eight to 10 weeks "to settle (his) family problems".

Discount? Confiscate the drug for their own usage, no need buy or sell back to black market

Or druggie mats let go because their buddies inside the CNB rigged the urine test for them.
Justice is flawed if an innocent was framed. It would not be as bad if a bad apple falls thru the net.
I would rather 100 druggies urine test were rigged rather than have 1 law abiding person jailed.

Be glad that these brainless fucks are no longer wasting tax payer's money.

Yup I have a friend that was ask to take urine test at woodlands custom in July 2018, now waiting trial. My friend had to get a loan to pay for legal fee as the free Lawyer refuse to go trial for her case. I wonder if there are more drug consumption case going for trial due to this 3 CNB officers. I was told by her Lawyer not many accused go to trial for consumption of drugs found in urine. My friend did saw two of the officers charge for swapping urine on duty during her stop at Woodlands custom that day.

There are no innocent druggies so to speak.
These 3 did it for benefit....if they want to frame someone technically they can too but they’ll get found out fast if they sabo a non druggie. And it’s no as easy as planting evidence as what you see on tv. Need group effort like how it is in this case

Solely Drug consumption charge hardly got trial as its not penal offence meted out by courts but it’s custodial sentence by MHA.
incarceration period is also standard across the board. So no need for lawyers

Yup I know rarely go for trial solely drug consumption, but my friend trial date is next year Feb. Just hope that she will be alright. I, her boss and colleagues are going to be witnesses at the stand. Just feel sorry for her. We strongly believe that she is innocent. She has never taken a single day leave or MC for about 2year before this incident. I was with her when we cross the custom at woodlands during her arrest.

I know what u mean, but isn't it easier to swap other parties urine sample then using your own to swap. Just my thought, may b there will be more people going for trial becoz of the 3officers. I saw a few guys going to PTC court without lawyers for 1count of drug consumption charge. Going to trial with Lawyer for solely drug consumption charge is hard enough, just imagine someone having to go trial without 1.

So these are the three losers that Boss Sam bribed.

Any Bros arrested by these 3guys at Woodlands Checkpoint last year, can file for an appeal if they handle your Urine??? Feel sad and angry if there are innocent victims that got Sabo or frame by them. I dun believe they only have done this once, but how to prove??? Unless Police or CPIB dig deeper but I doubt CPIB will investigate further as it will lead to more charges and more paper work for them. Unless there is CCTV in the place they kept the Urine sample.
