SINGAPORE – A 41-year-old man was arrested on Sept 20 after the police found substances suspected to be controlled drugs on him.

The man, who had verbally provided a false identity to the police, also allegedly pushed and attempted to bite officers while struggling during the arrest.

Photos taken by a Shin Min Daily News reader show that the man, who was shirtless, appeared to be holding a dog during the incident.

The police told The Straits Times on Sept 21 that they were alerted to a man behaving suspiciously along Ubi Avenue 3 at about 11.30am on Sept 20.

When they arrived at the scene, the police found the man sitting on the road beside his car. When officers approached the man, he provided them with a false identity.

The police conducted further checks, finding substances suspected to be controlled drugs, drug paraphernalia, an e-vaporiser and a bank card not bearing his name on him.

After his real identity was established, the man was found to be wanted by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB).

“During the arrest, the man put up a struggle and allegedly pushed and attempted to bite the officers. Necessary force had to be used to restrain him,” said the police.

The man was arrested for using criminal force against a public servant, providing false particulars, suspected fraudulent possession of property and suspected drug-related offences.

The suspected drug-related offences have been referred to the CNB and the suspected e-vaporiser-related offence will be referred to the Health Sciences Authority.

Investigations are ongoing.
