Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) should link up with the Social Development Unit (SDU) - 30-07-2010, 01:43 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IN VIEW of the government’s efforts to increase Singapore’s fertility rate, I am writing to suggest that the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) link up with the Social Development Unit (SDU).
This is to create opportunities for national servicemen (NSFs) to connect with single women of their age group.
Here are some reasons why the link should be made.
Most combat-fit NSFs stay in camp for five to six days a week, severely limiting their opportunities to interact with women.
Military culture may shape the NSFs to the extent that he is less able to interact with women graciously.
This could affect his chances of finding a date and, perhaps, a marriage partner.
I understand that SDU partners universities like NUS in promoting romance. Such successful tie-ups suggest that another link-up – one with SAF – could be feasible.
I believe that an SAF-SDU link-up will be beneficial in the long run and will ultimately ensure prosperity and social stability.
