Wife of food delivery rider killed at Kovan says she will never forgive Mini Cooper driver

The wife of the food delivery rider who was killed at Kovan, after he was allegedly hit from behind by a Mini Cooper, told Shin Min Daily News that she can never forgive the driver.
Simon Teo, the 42-year-old man who died, was delivering food at that time when he was allegedly run over while waiting at the T-junction to turn right on his electric bicycle into Hougang Avenue 1.
He died from his injuries after he was sent to the hospital.
The 34-year-old driver was arrested for drink driving and careless driving causing death.
The incident happened on Tuesday night, March 23, at around 10:11pm.
The deceased leaves behind an eight-year-old daughter and his wife.
Wife said she doesn't want to see driver
The wife told Shin Min: “I can’t forgive the driver!”
She also said: “I saw that the driver’s face was flushed, and looked like he just drank, I can’t forgive him ever, and I don’t wish for him to come to the wake.”
An eyewitness at the scene told Shin Min that the wife cried uncontrollably upon reaching the scene and seeing her husband lying on the ground.
She also questioned the driver if he had been drinking, but the driver appeared to be expressionless and didn’t reply her.
Even after getting up, she could not stop crying.
Investigations are still ongoing.
Good Samaritans stepped up to help
Five people approached to help the victim after he was knocked off his e-bike.
According to Shin Min, Teo had been working as a food delivery rider for about four to five years.
The wife told Shin Min that she was informed of the accident when she was woken up by a phone call made by a stranger using her husband’s phone.
When she saw her husband at the scene of the accident, which was five minutes away from where the couple lived, he was attended to by emergency medical personnel.
The wife said: “I was calling his name, but he had no response at all..."
Passed away after he was sent to hospital
The wife waited at the hospital for the doctors to save her husband, but a couple of hours later in the middle of the night, they said they tried their best but could not save him.
The wife also said she had already told her daughter about her father’s death.
The mother said her girl understands that Teo had already passed away, but would cry and say she “misses daddy”.
The mother said although she is working, most decisions in the household were made by her husband, and so she feels lost at the moment.
She also told the Chinese media that she wanted to thank those who stepped forward to help her husband after the accident happened.
The Good Samaritans checked on her husband’s condition and helped direct traffic, and even held an umbrella over the fallen man as it was raining during that time.
She also said she felt thankful to them for calling her as she was able to see her husband one last time before he passed away.
She said she hopes that any eyewitness who saw the accident or have a recording of it would contact her.

Sam you should stop showing pictures of cyclists hit by cars. They give the motorists here an epic hard on. All that cheering and celebration because they don’t have the balls to do it themselves.
Yes we get it. Cycling is safe and does not pose harm to other road users. But why are other road users so pissed off by cyclists? Even pedestrians are peeved with the incessant ringing of bicycle bells from behind.
I was looking for images or vids of a cyclist killing a motorist but unfortunately I could not find one.

A very good post...I hope to see more of such accidents because of the retarded cyclists. It is obvious that cycling is dangerous and cyclists cause accidents n the real victims are the car drivers because they are guilty even if the cyclists cause the accident. Cyclists have cut into lanes, expect vehicles to slow down and just cycling dangerously with a huge amount of inconsideration to other road users and pedestrians (when they cycle on footpaths).
Since cycling is soo dangerous, shouldn't cycling stop cycling on roads and footpaths? N if they do, show consideration for the other road users? Cycling on roads is like swimming with the sharks...and a Darwin award should be given to the cyclists. I only pity the drivers.

Singapore – Having seen a cyclist riding dangerously without the proper protective equipment and weaving through cars, a motorcyclist took it upon himself to remind the rider of road safety practices.
Facebook page ROADS.sg posted a video of the incident on Saturday (Apr 17).
The caption reads, “Motorcyclist saw this bicyclist weaving in and out of traffic dangerously and not wearing a helmet. Wearing earbuds and not giving full attention to road safety is not wise.”
The post added that brakeless fixed-gear bicycles are banned and illegal to be used on Singapore roads.

“This is why we need to ban bicycles on the road guys,” said the motorcyclist as he spotted the cyclist up ahead.

“No helmet, no nothing,” he added, as the cyclist switched lanes repeatedly.
He began honking at the cyclist, but the latter continued weaving through the traffic.

Upon reaching the intersection on a red light, the motorcyclist stopped beside the cyclist.
“I don’t think you should be on the road,” said the motorcyclist to the cyclist.
“The way you cycle, no helmet, no nothing. You must ride at the side. You should be using the first lane on the left.”

Meanwhile, the cyclist looked at the motorcyclist before removing an earbud.

“You shouldn’t be cycling through the cars; it’s very dangerous, you know. I caught everything on camera,” said the motorcyclist. He advised the cyclist to please ride at the side.
The cyclist replied inaudibly about going the opposite direction.
“You’re going to get yourself killed, you know,” said the motorcyclist, to which the cyclist nodded.
The motorcyclist then reversed to position himself properly before the white intersection lines and shared a short exchange with a nearby vehicle driver who also expressed concern towards the cyclist.
With over 530 comments to date, members from the online community commended the motorcyclist and urged for something to be done regarding those who pose a danger to other road users.
“The law should absolve anyone from any responsibilities should they meet with an accident with such rider resulting in their (rider) death or disability,” added Facebook user Douglas Ho./TISG

Cyclists get a bad reputation in Singapore, what with the number of accidents — even death — black sheep have caused in the past few years. Just last weekend alone, 34 cyclists were caught for flouting rules on the road, two of whom even rode against traffic.
It would seem a daredevil cyclist isn't doing anything to fix that either.

The youngster was caught on camera zipping through traffic at high speed along Chua Chu Kang Road towards Bukit Panjang on Saturday (April 17). He had no helmet, no brakes and wore a pair of earbuds the entire time.
"Your father's road ah?" the motorcyclist recording the cyclist via a helmet-mounted camera yelled when he spotted the other. "This is why we need to ban bicycles on roads!"
The video continued for a minute before the cyclist comes to a stop at a traffic light, allowing the motorcyclist to catch up to him.
When told off for his dangerous riding and reminded to stick to the left-most lane, the cyclist nonchalantly gestures to the right, saying: "I go there."
"You're going to get yourself killed," the motorcyclist remarked.
The video, which was uploaded onto the motorcyclist's TikTok, was reposted onto multiple social media sites the same day. It has since generated a few thousand shares across the different pages, as well as inciting an angry online mob made of both cyclists and motorists.
"Whose kid is this? Please educate him before he ends up dead or causing someone else's death," a netizen remarked.

Under the Road Traffic (Bicycle) Rules, cyclists who ride on the road must stick to the far left edge of the road and cycle in an orderly manner with due regard for the safety of others. A helmet must be worn securely at all times.
The Government has, as of Jan 25, accepted a proposal by the Active Mobility Advisory Panel that called for a ban on brakeless bicycles in the future.
"We will work closely with the panel to implement it. More details will be announced in due course," the Ministry of Transport said.

“Is this even acceptable? The cyclists were all over the road!!! So dangerous!!! How to drive you teach me?! (sic)” wrote a netizen on Facebook indicating a group of cyclists on Woodlands Centre Road.
The cyclists had turned right at an intersection alongside other vehicles; however, there were instances where at least six cyclists were spread out across three lanes of the road.

At one point, one of the cyclists appeared to have changed lanes abruptly, causing a nearby vehicle on the right lane to hit the brakes.
The post included some more video footage of the incident before the cyclists had made the turn. It showed some of the cyclists on the extreme right while others were on the middle lane.
It appears that the cyclists changed lanes to avoid entering the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE), which they are not permitted to take, noted a mothership.sg report.

In response to the videos, members from the online community debated when the cyclists should have formed up to make the turn, whether at the middle lane or the rightmost lane.
Many also noted that the cyclists failed to indicate to the motorists their intention to change lanes, hence posing a risk for road safety.
According to the Road Traffic (Bicycles) Rules, the rider of a bicycle, power-assisted bicycle, trishaw, or tricycle must hold out his arm left or right arm (depending on direction) horizontally with the palm of the hand to the front. The signal should also be made in sufficient time to enable traffic to take appropriate action to avoid danger.
In response to similar incidents, calls for stricter rules and regulations such as the re-introduction of licence plates or bicycle registration have been made recently by actor Tay Ping Hui and the chief executive of Temasek Holdings, Ms Ho Ching./TISG
