I can see GMS is very shorted sighted. What's $387 million dollars compared to the potential billions we can add to our economy and the creation of more jobs for our people?
Tourism is an important part of the Singapore economy. Tourism contributes billions to our economy each year. Publicity is an important part of tourism industry that must be spent to entice tourists to come to this natural resource-less country. YOG puts tiny Singapore on the tourism world map. It's money well spent.
YOG is sports tourism - like recreational tourism such as the IRs, or medical tourism which alone adds more than $2 billion to our economy. Count the number of planes landing at Changi and Seletar, the hotel rooms filled up, the hungry tourists feasting in our restaurants, the tourist attractions (like IRs) thonged with tourists, our harbour lighted up with cruise ships, our taxis zooming in and out of stadiums - and you will understand why we can afford the luxury of having someone so free as GMS to come up with school-boyish video clips to ridicule the government, and in the process, attempt to sabotage our economy.
Come September, another sports tourism activity -Singapore Formula 1 - millions will be spent on infrastructure and advertisements. Till then. GMS may have a lot of time at hand to tinker with his Window Movie-maker and come up with a more entertaining video-clip.
