For the last 25 years, it has nothing to do with how the PAP performs. It depends on who the opposition are or what remains of them. The PAP has been systemically destroying the opposition. Singaporeans cannot bring themselves to vote in a bicycle thief to save themselves. With AHTC against the ropes, the PAP will probably do better than the last GE. The elderly and the new citizens are solidly behind the PAP. The goodies keep rolling in for these segment of voters.

And knowing that all the chinese PAP sanctioned potential candidates like ( TCH, too old already), TCJ ( assigned 2 important portfolios and cannot run), Gay Loong (fighting asshole cancer relapse), Kee Chiu (occupying PeeM chair), OYK ( Occupying DPM chair) etc. in other words, no other qualified PAP chinese candidate can be spared for the EP. And Tan Cheng Bok, drooling thinking about how he will whip any no name PAP candidate they put up, because the PAP can't spare any decent chinese candidates, and become the EP that he should have been all those years ago. The point I was making is that TCB case is about the dispute pertaining to starting the count with Wee Kim Wee as first elected president (not "malayness" factor issue which arose later)) This was based on advice from the AGC. So Im saying that PAP can save its skin by letting TCB win the case i.e. the count should start from OTC. It will be a hollow victory for TCB as he still won't qualify but allows PAP to press reset button and get it right next time round.

Also noteworthy that CCS on being asked about this in parliament by Sylvia evaded the question altogether and alleged that Sylvia was questioning the character of AG. Note that Chan as AG provided his reasoning no matter how ridiculous it sounded on entering the Cheng San counting centre. Then again they might wanted to avoid another Chansanian blooper.

In other words, a freak result might happen and the PAP might lose the election even if they win the popular vote. The recent US election shows how this can happen. He also contemplated military action in the event of a "freak" election. But later, this was determined to be not feasible and not reliable given that the majority of the SAF were conscript soldiers or reservist and cannot be counted on to shoot protesters in the streets if need be.
The idea bandied around became the reality with the passing of the amendments for the EP. The thought behind this was that even if the PAP lost the election, an elected president beholden to the PAP and in the pocket of the PAP can still obstruct the new govt with the new oversight powers their President will have over the national reserves and what not. As with most things that the idiots think up, this had unexpected consequences. The GRC system although hugely favouring the PAP also hugely rewarded the oppo party that wins by giving them 6 seats at one time.
