All oil trade in this region passes through the Straits of Malacca, and the upcoming military conflict in the South China Sea will make the situation worse.

Regardless of what you believe about oil or alternative energy, the oil companies will determine that the risk is just not worth it and it's cheaper to refine the oil closer to the source.
