SHE says he assaulted and raped her.
He says she inflicted the injuries upon herself and had even bitten him.
While it is difficult to determine the truth, the episode itself as related by the 48-year-old woman, serves as a good lesson not to trust anyone too soon.
It was a chance encounter on a bus to Kuala Lumpur in February last year. She had dozed off and her head was leaning on the Malaysian man's shoulder.
He was amicable about it and started a conversation with her. They exchanged phone numbers and agreed to return to Singapore together the next day.
On the return trip, she said the man had held her hands because he said the bus' air-con was too cold. She did not stop him.
She told the man about her failed marriage and that she was staying alone at her house with two rooms to be rented out.
Immediately, he told her he was interested to rent one.
He went to her house but instead of checking out the rooms, he went for the owner.
"We had sex that day and it was only the fifth day we had known each other," she said.
Since then, the man had been going to her house and had sex with her every weekend.
"He had to have sex every time he came over and if I refused, he would grab my hands so tight that I could not retaliate. He would then push me onto the bed before raping me.
"He was very violent and he loved to leave kiss marks on me and I think he did it on purpose," she said.
The woman could no longer bear the torture and lodged a police report recently.
The man, when approached by reporters over the phone, said he did not abuse her.
He claimed that the woman had inflicted the injuries on herself.
"She had even bitten me," he said but declined to talk more on the matter and hung up.
