A failed asylum seeker who is accused of gang-raping a woman on Brighton Beach - leaving her with marks on her neck - told the court he saw 'how girls and boys behaved in clubs' before he carried out the alleged attack.

Egyptian national Ibrahim Alshafe, 25, and his co–defendants Karin Al-Danasurt, 20, also from Egypt, and Abdulla Ahmadi, 26, an Iranian national, allegedly approached the woman after she got separated from her friends during a night out in Brighton on October 4 last year.

The 33-year-old victim told police she was dragged onto the beach by the men where the attack allegedly took place.

Speaking at Lewes Crown Court, the woman said she was so drunk she could barely stand and that the 'evil men' had ruined her life.

Alshafe said the woman approached him and his friend in the early hours of the morning.

The migrant, from Alexandria, told the court that he was a virgin before the incident.

He denies rape and told the jury that the woman - who cannot be named for legal reasons - kissed and groped him and his friend before telling them she wanted to have sex.

Alshafe also told the court he could not explain how the woman came to have marks on her neck.

Hanna Llewellyn-Waters, prosecuting, said the woman was attacked by a group of men who acted as a pack and 'treated her like meat for entertainment'.

Asked if he had never had sex before going to the beach Alshafe replied yes and said: 'I was happy that I'm trying something like that for the first time.'

Alshafe told the court his friend Abdulla Ahmadi was having sex with the woman at the same time as the third man, Karin Al-Danasurt filmed them.

The court were shown three videos, filmed by Al-Danasurt, in one clip Alshafe is shown slapping the women.

He told jurors that the woman was conscious throughout the incident and 'was enjoying what we were doing'.

Alshafe continued: 'She didn't say "stop". She didn't go away. She didn't say "Don't do this".'

The court heard his asylum claim was denied on the day he went to Brighton but he did not find out until some days later.

Alshafe said the three men travelled to Brighton from the asylum hotel near Horsham, West Sussex, where he had been living since arriving in the UK from France in June 2025.

The court heard he was recorded on CCTV at the Horizon club in Brighton dancing on a podium.

'It was my first time in a club, listening to music, mixing with people.

'I saw how boys behaved in clubs, how girls behaved in clubs,' Alshafe said.

He told the jury the woman did not appear drunk when she approached him and Ahmadi on Brighton seafront at around 5.30am.

The Egyptian national claimed that the woman kissed him and Ahmadi before she put her hands on their crotches.

He said: 'I wouldn't say she was drunk.

'What I saw from what she did and the way she is laughing, that she wanted to have sex.

'This is everything that came to my mind.'

When he took to the stand, Al-Danasurt denied he shared 'trophy' videos of his friends raping the woman on a before leaving her alone in the dark, the court heard.

'You sent that trophy footage to Ahmadi for his own, personal viewing,' Ms Lllewllyn-Waters said.

Al-Danasurt replied: 'No, I didn't think about that. If I thought they were treating her like trash, I wouldn't have said what I said.

'I never sent those videos and I didn't even see those videos or watch those videos on my phone.'

He denied encouraging his friends to rape the woman on Brighton beach and sending three clips to one of them hours later.

Ms Llewllyn-Waters told him: 'You were a pack that night, from the beginning, all three of you.

'You degraded her, you spat on her, you laughed and filmed your co-defendants raping her.

'You thought it was funny that she could be and was being treated like trash,' Ms Llewllyn-Waters added.

Al-Danasurt accepted he did not look for help or call out as he watched his two friends carrying out the alleged attack.

He left her on the beach after the incident, Ms Llewllyn-Waters said.

'You turned your back and you kept walking,' she said.

Egyptian Karin Al-Danasurt accepted he did not try to raise the alarm or shout for help.

He told police he recorded three videos of his friends raping the woman to gather evidence.

Sussex Police said the woman was attacked at the lower esplanade in the early hours of Saturday, October 4 last year.

Alshafe, 25, denies two counts of rape.

Iranian Ahmadi, 25, also denies two counts of rape.

Al-Danasurt denies four counts of rape and one of sharing three video clips.

The trial at Lewes Crown Court continues.
