IN AN unprecedented move, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has suspended over-the-counter passport applications.
There will be no walk-in passport applications from now until next Saturday. This also includes passport renewals.
Instead, the ICA is asking Singaporeans to apply by post, drop their passports off at a box outside the ICA building or to apply online.
Passport collection today is also strictly by appointment and no walk-in customers will be accepted.
Singapore citizens can make such appointments at the ICA website.

So why is it that suddenly Wrong Cunt Seng's corrupt ICA is unable to cope with a standard service like passport renewal ?

1. Tender for new supply of passports cockup ? CPIB and auditor-general should step in.

2. Too much resources being allocated to serve FTrash, esp. PRC 'students' and "social visit" pass holders ?
3. ICA didn't forecast / foresee that decreasing the validity period from 10 years to 5 years would ramp up to double the old renewal rate once the 10 year passports phase out - i.e. 5 years from around 2006/2007 (iirc).

Foreigners first and Singaporeans second.

Gahment is actually very considerate for the inconvenience and safety of its citizens.

Because of the sudden avalanche of late comers, it wants to ensure that citizens do not waste their time queuing long hours for their passport. It is taken pre-emptive measure before the school holiday starts next week when situation becomes worse. Citizens can still submit their applications through the receptacles placed outside the ICA office, or better still apply from the comfort of their home - without having to waste time or transport money.

In spite of repeated reminders to renew passport early and not wait until the peak school holiday period, Sporeans are still complacent and wait until the last minute to try their luck. Not only machines can break down, human beings can also break down.

Anyway those who can type out a single letter of the alphabet in this forum should be most ashamed of themselves. Where did their years of schooling go to? Applying for new passports or renewals is so convenient and easy using online facilities. A few clicks here and there - and its done - even before their taxi or bus arrives at ICA office!

Some people prefer to waste their time KPKB rather than typing out their application. They now realise that they are most dependent on government services.

Three words to describe them : Serve them right.

If you work for the gov't then you should listen to the "customers" criticism, instead of making excuses.

When a company has a problem it should improve its processes instead of blaming the "customer".

Not making excuses lah - these people share the blame. Must wake them up! They must pay for their tidak apa attitude.

Even Resort World Sentosa has to stop selling entry tickets for the 18 March 2010 due to overwhelming demand. It's not that they do not want to earn money - in fact the more the merrier. They would be irresponsible if they continue to sell the tickets knowing that they cannot cope and let their customers suffer or feel frustrated.

Any way what's the big deal. The alternative is easy and much more convenient. I have done it before; it's a breeze!

What did you do to wait for 4 hours?

I submit my application online, they gave me the reply letter. I booked the appointment online, reached there and within 30 minutes my number was called and I picked up my renewed passport and left within the hour.

I don't deny that the place is overcrowded with foreigners. But I'm not sure what you did to wait for 4 hours. Did you apply for everything online? Or were you a walk-in?

Passports used to last 10 years. That Yellow DOG shortened it to 5 years and made it more expensive to renew it. Yet the awesome profit made was not re-invested into more manpower even as the relentess import of FTrash continues to exact a toll on immigration support infrastructure.
