Chennai, Nov 17: Chennai police on Thursday arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly raping up to 50 women in Chennai. The alleged serial rapist, identified as Madhan Arivalagan, would rape women after robbing them, and would also make videos of his crimes.
A native of Mathur, Krishnagiri, he was caught in police net for a mugging incident– however, when police officers checked his mobile phones, they were stunned to find videos of sexual assaults on his cellphone.
Police said that the accused would trap women alone at their home and rape them. He recorded the videos of rape and blackmail women to repeatedly rape them. They have received only one formal complaint so far.
Arivalagan is a BSc (Maths) graduate from a Krishnagiri college. He also worked for a software firm in Bengaluru for a couple of years. He moved to Chennai in 2015 for job but could not find a gainful employment, he told investigators. He took to crime after that. He once raped a robbery victim– later, he became a habitual offender who would target women. He was detained on a complaint that a robber had mugged him at knifepoint. Police had found him by scanning the CCTV footage of the area.
“Arivalagan admitted that he had raped several women at knifepoint in their houses,” an office told the Times of India.
