My sense is that it's VW's decision. Pursuing something that he feels closer to and same reason why Alex Au is not involved. Mainstream politics requires one to be all things to all people. The PAP had the same issue with 3 former Ministers of State - Dr Augustine Tan, Dr Tay Eng Soon and Ho Peng Kee. In their case, religion. All 3 struggled and Augustine Tan had to leave.

VW is too much of an asset to push out.

Augustine's stepping aside was because of his ECA. Later, born again Christian.

Ling and Cheo instigated Chiam's ouster. CSJ was merely an unwitting front for their devious antics. (Remember CSJ was a political newbie then – he had just joined the SDP in '92 – he had zilch clout within the party, PhD aside.)

Not sure about Cheo. Ling was instrumental in the internal war. Was Jufrie around then? Ling and Jufrie were colleagues previously.

That's about right. But it was a very amicable parting of ways. He still participates in party activities, but is no longer a member.

Not necessary a bad thing. It goes to show individual cause can no longer dictate the party policies.

I just hope VW can look into the big picture and not being so assertive on his pet cause.

TJS and AYG are very thick. It was TJS who roped in AYG in GE2011. They were both on the editorial board of the Rafflesian Times in school.

Michelle would probably join TJS's party if she comes back.

Augustine had an unplanned "robust" discussions with an Arab state delegation to MFA on Christianity and Islam. They complained. Next day out. At that time recent convert over zealous. Was not aware of ECA, looks like another TEL - screwing student in car park.

VW has left SDP so that he can continue with activism for workers' and gay rights. AYG will join TJS in his new party. Michelle is currently overseas.

Not sure if people can recall but SDP did something at the last GE that scored it brownies points and people appreciated it. Because of SDP, the Holland-BT Timah GRC had the A team. Possibly the smartest group of candidates.

Yes, they were the first batch of next generation leaders. Old man wanted someone like GKS. All had to have PHD or equivalent. There was 3 of them - TEL, AT and a medical doctor ( can't recall the name) one of whom was to be the next PM. All 3 gone. It was also the era where PAP had many academics as MPs.

I am going to be the Devil's advocate. I think Chee & SDP can still succeed but he should change his strategy and tactics. Stop pretending SDP can form the next govt and even accept that it can only be a junior Opposition. Moderate the anti-PAP aggressiveness and campaign on checks and balances. Appeal to the uncles and aunties by using dialect and coming across as less intellectual, more hoi polloi and in touch with realistic expectations that others have of SDP and himself. Playing Gandhi or self-immolation doesnt work.

I mean, all he got to do is to be stronger than the weakest PAP team, and contest there. I am sure if everyone is hating PAP and it has been said that even a cockroach can win in a ward, all one has to do is to be a better value proposition to the slate of PAP stooges who are standing.

i am glad that people, including the pap, are underestimating the SDP and CSJ. i am looking forward to a shocking result and a big slap for the pap at the next GE
