This was something that was associated with SDP and its supporters until GE2006 and for a time after but thankfully vanished prior to GE2011. For some reason it surfaced again recently. Here are usual ones.
1. Singaporeans are dumb and do not know their rights.
2. The PAP will never hand over power and will bring in the army.
3. Chee is ahead of his time and SIngaporeans are unable to comprehend him or that he too good for them.
4.WP was selected by the PAP to win seats
5. Chee and SDP have been unfairly persecuted.
The first 2 has resurfaced. A bit of play on the third. The others have not surfaced.
Lets face it these are poor excuses rather than cogent views. The PAP has been losing seats, performed badly and trounced unexpectedly in Punggol. LiLian is no political firebrand. She is no scholar and her vocation is not in the category that gets much attention in the political space.
The question has to be asked why the Dumb Singaporean picked Lilian and not a surgeon with a long winding CV that only lacked a landing on the moon. Why did SAF not step in?
The question has to be asked why the SDP despite making so much of noise, releasing media statements, etc did not step in. Were they told that WP had been pre-selected Punggol.
By the way only a moron will belief that an old man who wears trackers to official function has one leg in the grave will bring in the SAF. Only a moron will not realise that bringing in the SAF will immediately plunge high property prices such as Sentosa Cove, landed property in Nassim etc. Who then are losers? The entire Lee Clan and their supporters pray at the altar of high capitalism. The MDA CEO is not going to fork out $10m when she could have easily bought properties in Monaco, Bahamas, US and Europe and still have change.
This habit of SDP supporters finding silly excuses and constantly claiming that Singaporeans cannot understand or appreciate a good thing is counterproductive. Imagine a party that has controlled communications so well on the net and performs badly. What does that tell you.
Honestly which high paid SAF general is going to join in. For 20 yeas, the carefully crafted plan and it is official is that no one holds a leadership position in SAF for more than 5 years so that no unnecessary loyalty remains. These guys join GLCs are are well rewarded. Are they going to allow their juniors carry out martial law.
