Introducing Our People
Behind every recruit's BMT journey are dedicated professionals, including Ms. Jessica Tan, one of BMTC’s newest Carehub counsellors.
Jessica has been a counsellor in the SAF since 2019, providing vital mental health and psychosocial support to servicemen through counselling, mental health triaging, and talks, as well as supporting the SAF Counselling hotline. She collaborates closely with commanders to ensure timely care for servicemen facing personal or adjustment challenges.
Supporting recruits in BMT can be challenging, especially with the programme’s tight schedule. When recruits feel overwhelmed, balancing training demands with the need for support requires close coordination with training schools and commanders. Being present in camp allows Jessica and the Carehub team to step in quickly, stabilise difficult situations, and help recruits regain the confidence to continue training.
Working in a mainly male environment has not felt unusual for Jessica, who believes performance and professionalism matter more than gender. This International Women’s Day, she shares that the growing number of women in the SAF shows how diverse strengths — physical, cognitive, emotional, and leadership — strengthen the force.
Outside work, yoga, and quiet time with her cats help her recharge and stay ready to support those who serve.
