savings

Moot point -for countries not only with comparative advantage (cost of living-wise) but also windows of opportunities eslewhere. Comfort zone for most is something else

Seriously, go read the forum about living in JB. :)
Many are struggling in Spore. If you have property in Spore you can rent/sell it & use the $$ to live in JB. As long as the PAP is in power the costs in Spore will keep going up. If you stay in JB you can use the income you get from Spore to pay for a better lifestyle. Just do the sums: cheaper water, electricity, no GST, cheaper fuel, cheaper car, etc in JB. Any excess $$ can be used to build up one's savings.

I've only got enough $$ for a yearly expenditure of $100,000 for the next 20+ years. It may be enough to live in Spore but it will go even further in places like Thailand, Malaysia,... The life style outside Spore is also less stressful.

Which means you've over Sg$ 2 million in liquid cash? Nice.

I'm comfortable with what I have. Since I am living off the dividens from my shares, it will probably last longer more than 20+ years.

For those with a modest lifestyle, the amount of $ I have accumulated is common among my peers. I don't spend $$ on cars, big houses, maids, etc.... However when I do re-locate my biggest expense will be for a car & not a home. I will use it to do some exploration.

Nowadays with so many cheap foreigners in Spore I worry for the current generation. Many Sporeans have such high expectations but with the high cost structure it will be difficult to make enough $.
