No one, except newly minted citizens and PRs, is surprised by the overall tone and thrust of quiet PM Lee’ s National Day Speech. In line with previous ND rallies, Singaporeans who succeeded in overcoming the odds were singled out for the spotlight to fall on them to generate the feel-good factor.

All the goodies to be dished out like help for the low and middle income groups, support for part-time degree students, changes to pre-school education, more buses, two more universities are laudable and will improve the quality of life and give more opportunities for Singaporeans (using my two eyes here).

PM Lee bemoaned the the lack of graciousness of Singaporeans and nasty anti-foreigner comments particularly online. The finger points at the regime for its ultra generous immigration policies to all and sundry, mainly from third world countries.

This onslaught of cheap labour over the last ten years has depressed wages, forced Singaporeans to lose their jobs to foreigners and turned Singapore into miniature versions of China, the Philippines and India. The transport system naturally can’t cope with the spike in population, leading to frequent MRT breakdowns.

PM Lee, to no one’s surprise, did not address the root cause of the many issues troubling Singaporeans. The lack of accountability and transparency, civic and political freedoms, freedom of the media, human rights failings, gerrymandering and discriminatory upgrading projects have their roots in repression.

Singaporeans particularly those in cyberspace will continue to be very noisy as long as PM Lee continues to ignore the world-wide trend toward greater democracy. Even our closest neighbour Malaysia in the north has embarked on the democratization path.

Even if you believe the assertion by Dear Leader that the National Pledge is merely an aspiration, it should at least be addressed. To new citizens who may be ignorant of The Pledge, it is “to build a democratic society.” After more than 40 years, it’s ridiculous to see that this pledge is coming nowhere to fruition. Why? Because the core value of the regime is repression. It’s as simple as that.

No amount of feel-good speeches and stirring words will change that. Or propaganda by the state-controlled media.

National Day Rally 2012 – Future With “Hope”, “Heart” & “Home” – Singaporeans’ views
lhl051.jpg

“Touching on Singapore’s shared future in his National Day Rally speech, Prime Minister (PM) Lee Hsien Loong, shared that the next chapter in the Singapore Story to be about Hope, Heart and Home, where we look to our shared future with confidence and Hope; where we treat one another and others too with a big Heart; and where we build for our children and grandchildren our best Home.”
Yeah, Singapore’s shared future – “HOPELESSLY Expensive & Unaffordable Living Expenses”, “HEARTLESSLY Replaced By Foreign Trash” and “HOMELESSLY not your Singapore anymore”.

These are the feelings of true Singaporeans fed up of Singapore’s current state today and which will not be published offline by pro-government media in any newspapers.

If you don’t believe me, the above will be repeatedly uttered by many on many online forums.

Anyway, just speaking out the true feelings of many Singaporeans…

Beautifully crafted speech but absolutely no substance. The contents do not relate to “real” problems of Singapore facing NOW, not future problems which no one can speculate.

Singapore today, are more divided than before. Why ? Due solely to the government policies and initiatives. Government should take a step back and examine with a real “heart” why and where they have gone wrong, instead of blaming the common people.

Singapore has a competent workforce, but would not venture to say we are world class. We have sound finance ?? Not so sure, we may have lowest corporate tax rate, but the government don’t seem to realize that for wage earners, CPF is also a form of tax plus ERP COE GST. If all add up, Singapore will have one of the highest tax rate. Sound finance ?- yes and no, how do TH and GIC flare ? no one really knows the answer.

More universities ? Yes, we do need a few more, but how many ? Are we going to use universities to earn revenue ?

Immigrants, yes we do need some, good ones, and must be really gradual because Singapore do not have the infrastructure capacities to take such number of immigrants.

Government do not seem to recognize the fact that, all couples, by instinct would desperately want to have their own children. But to be responsible parents, couples worry and fear that they will not be able to financially raise them. They worry about schools, medical, and house which get costlier and costlier by the month. So naturally, they put off having children.

Supporting PAP is insanity:
August 27, 2012 at 12:13 pm Supporting PAP is insanity(Quote)
Singaporeans thinking of continuing to support PAP must think again.
Remember what Einstein said about insanity.
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
PAP has failed miserably since LHL became PM.
(1) low productivity of Singapore economy
(2) low birth rate started by LKY’s “Stop at 2″ policy
(3) failing to plan to large number of foreigners brought in
(4) exempting foreigners from CPF making them cheaper to hire
(5) foreigners taking jobs away from Singaporeans
(6) shortage of jobs for Singaporeans
(7) shortage of MRT trains and public buses
(8) shortage of places in local schools/varsities for Singaporeans
(9) shortage of hospital beds, doctors and nursing homes
(10) shortage of public housing
(11) high inflation (Singapore now more expensive than Hong Kong)
(12) high cost of education and health care
(13) sharp rise in price public housing (price doubled in 5 years)
(14) depressed local wages
(15) overcrowded public transport due to large number of foreigners
(16) depleted CPF accounts after paying for HDB flat
(17) many CPF accounts below CPF Minimum Sum due
(18) massive Government spending on foreigners using taxpayers’ money
(19) billions of losses overseas by GIC and Temasek
Coonsidering the above mistakes/failures continuing to support PAP is indeed insanity.

[h=2]‘Hope, Heart and Home’ – Only good at coining highfalutin slogans[/h]

Talk is cheap, and PM LHL has been doing alot of talking since GE-2011 – but what has he achieved since his promise made during the last rally before polling day of GE-2011 ?

Instead of slowing down the number of NEW Citizens, the flow of migrants continue unabated even as he continue to justify the need to have more NEW Citizens.

Cost of Living continue to climb, wages continue to stagnate.

Despite a strong Singapore Dollar – the retail prices of imported essentials remain absurdly high due to the HIGH COST imposed by the PAP Government for Building Space; Public, Private and Commercial Vehicles; and Utilities – all of which have caused the spike in all kinds of Goods and Services needed by Singaporean.

“Hope, Heart and Home” ???

PM LHL is only good at coining highfalutin slogans that will simply be forgotten a month after feeling good in delivering another National Day Rally speech.

If he truly believe in bringing Singapore forward, the simplest act that he can perform will be to ensure that the Singapore PLEDGE is put into action.

Singapore need a visionary leader like Steve Job, who is able to bend the curve, create a new trajectory, to bring change and progress to the lives of the APPLE workers, as well as bring joy and substance to so many people on this globe.

Regrettably such real talent demand honest hard-work that shape the character of a leader, which unfortunately is non-existent and replaced by hypocrisy and double standards in Singapore.
