A Stomper has raised concerns over a large group of road cyclists seen occupying multiple lanes along Upper Thomson Road early in the morning on May 6.

According to Stomper Flo, the incident happened just after dawn and said there were 'hordes' of cyclists.

"It's extremely dangerous to both the bikers and the motorists!" she said.

A video shared by the Stomper shows dozens of cyclists riding in a large group.

According to the Land Transport Authority, cyclists must keep to a maximum length of five bicycles when riding in groups, which means a maximum of five cyclists when riding in single file, or 10 cyclists when riding two abreast on roads with more than one lane.

Cyclists are also advised to always ride as close as practicable to the far left edge of roads to allow traffic to overtake them safely.

Cyclists who are caught flouting the cycling group size rule will be fined $150.

Forum: Reckless cycling near bus stops puts commuters at risk

May 21, 2025

I have had disabilities and mental health conditions since 2011.

Recently, I experienced two alarming incidents involving cyclists while waiting at bus stops in Pasir Ris.

On April 5, I had just finished dinner and was waiting to board a bus near Block 515. I was looking to my right as the bus approached.

Suddenly, a cyclist appeared on my left – against the flow of traffic – and crashed into me. I was badly injured but was too dazed to take a photo or get the cyclist’s details.

The next day, I reported the incident to the police and sought treatment at a hospital.

Thankfully, I have since recovered from the injuries.

On April 14, I had another close call. I was about to board a bus near Block 500A when another bicycle approached – again on my left.

Fortunately, this cyclist stopped in time and swerved a little to avoid crashing into me.

I urge the authorities to consider installing protective barriers at bus stops to shield commuters from errant cyclists and PMD users, to ensure safer access to public transport.

He's very lucky that he was hit by a cyclist and not by a car or bus or he'd be dead.

The more people we can get out of their cars and on to bicycles the safer the roads will be.

They don't seem to be causing any danger whatsoever unlike this driver.

Had she been on a bicycle instead that poor motorcyclist would still be with us today.

SINGAPORE – A 50-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital after an accident involving a car near the junction of Aljunied Road and Sims Avenue on June 1.

The man was conscious when taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), who, like the police, were alerted to the accident at around 5.05pm.

A video of the incident posted on Facebook shows the cyclist landing on the front of a car and bouncing off it onto the road. It is unclear from the footage whether the cyclist had been struck by the vehicle.

In photographs circulating on Facebook, the man is seen with one side of his face covered in blood following the accident. Uniformed officers tend to him as he is seated on a pavement. Two ambulances are parked nearby.

Other images show a dark-coloured car with a partially shattered windscreen, possibly from the impact of the crash.

Police investigations are ongoing.

According to statistics from Data.gov.sg, an open government data portal, 591 cyclists and pillions were injured in road traffic accidents in 2024. They accounted for approximately 6.3 per cent of the total 9,302 people injured in such accidents that year.
