hahaha....this is interesting....lance corporal jose gutierrez, 22, was such a recruit. he was an orphan in guatemala, hitchhiked, hopped on freight trains in guatemala, across central america, and took a 2000-mile journey to california when he was only a boy. after sneaking into california undetected, he was adopted by a foster family. he joined the marines a non-citizen. he was the 2nd u.s. casualty in iraq on march 2003. he became a u.s. citizen posthumously, and that was after much political wrangling during the bush administration. congress and potus had to pass a law to allow u.s. soldiers who died as non-citizens to become citizens, and we can thank lance corporal gutierrez for that.
