Probably not so much for ASW then to protect shipping lines and probably meant to support the littoral ships/green water navy when SEA eventually gets contested given that China now has potential to extend their reach outside their normal envelope.
Especially amongst the waterways in our area which are fringed with lots of islands. The option of having ASM onboard would be good for smaller targets especially surface ones, not sure if its the R version though.

So we open doors to PRCs but contain their navy?
Domestic policies the Americans cannot care. Buying these stuff to contain China is part of the American policy not ours, its impossible for us alone to contain China, we're just part of the big plan.
