<!-- START OF : div id="storytext"--><!-- more than 4 paragraphs -->THE Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) will get a new chief come Dec 10 - and in a first for the Singapore Armed Forces, one sibling will replace another.
The new Chief of Air Force will be Brigadier-General Ng Chee Meng, 41. He will replace his older brother, Major-General Ng Chee Khern, 44, who has been the Air Force chief since 2006.
The generals have another sibling in the top rungs of the military: The youngest of the three, Rear-Admiral Ng Chee Peng, 39, is the Republic of Singapore Navy's Chief of Staff - Naval Staff and Fleet Commander.
Maj-Gen Ng, an SAF (Overseas) and President's Scholar, will move to the administrative service after he relinquishes his appointment, the Defence Ministry said yesterday.
Acknowledging his achievements since he joined the military in 1984, Mindef said the two-star general has served the SAF with distinction.
It credited Maj-Gen Ng with leading 'the most fundamental restructuring' of the Air Force and its staff since the arm was formed in 1968.
He regrouped the RSAF's aircraft, radars and air defence systems into five commands to deliver quicker and more devastating firepower, regardless of whether they are in high-risk operations in areas like the Persian Gulf or carrying out humanitarian relief efforts in disaster zones. Under the old set-up, they were divided according to location rather than function.
Under his watch, the RSAF also added new aircraft - the F15-SG Strike Eagle fighter and G550 Airborne Early Warning craft - to its arsenal.
BG Ng, currently the No. 2 in the Air Force, joined the SAF in 1986.
He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1991.
He also obtained a master's in international relations from Tufts University's Fletcher School in 2003.
During his military career, he has commanded the 144th squadron, which operates the F-5 Tigers, as well as Changi Air Base. He has also served as head of the air plans department and as director of joint operations.
