PRICES for the most sought-after used watch models from top Swiss brands Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet fell again in 2024, hitting fresh three-year lows.

The Bloomberg Subdial Watch Index, which tracks prices for the 50 most traded models by transaction value, declined nearly 6 per cent last year to its lowest since 2021.

An index of popular Rolex models dropped about 5 per cent during the year, Patek prices fell 4 per cent, and Audemars Piguet prices lost about 7.5 per cent on the used market, according to data from Subdial, a UK-based watch trading platform.

You could be paying more for a new Rolex watch at an authorized dealer in 2025 after used Rolex prices continued falling last year. But rising retail prices could be good news for collectors and secondhand dealers hit hard by Rolex depreciation.

Earlier this week Bloomberg reported that Rolex began the year by hiking prices as much as 8% for some new precious metal timepieces. For instance a gold Day-Date 40-mm with black dial that went for approximately $42,250 last year now will cost you $45,809, according to Rolex’s website. A gold GMT-Master II that went for $42,550 now retails for $45,950, Bloomberg said. Popular Rolex steel sport watches saw modest price hikes as well.

Typically, most jewelers and luxury watchmakers introduce new prices for goods at the start of the year, but an 8% jump is pretty drastic, outpacing inflation. A Rolex spokesperson said the company had no comments to share at this time when Yahoo Finance reached out.

Time to buy?

Wear a watch that you like and can afford, wear it like it's intended to. Treat it like a tool. Don't baby them and more importantly don't be a poser. I wear mine fishing, cycling, when I sleep/fuck, as edc. Be it a rolex, omega, tudor or seiko. I rotate them. Life is too short, so I beat the shit out of my watches.

The best watch to wear when doing all those activities is Kee Chiu's iconic watch.

In this modern age, wearing these are just pandering to your egos.

I haven't worn a watch since 2020 except for work and as a fashion item during weddings. Other times, I'd prefer to be as naked as possible.

Nowsadays China fakes everything well
Branded bags clothes sneakers watches etc
No incentive for many to spend on luxury goods coz there’s no way to differentiate them unless under scrutiny. I’ll go for those obscure lesser known brands that haven been imitated yet
