So what are you living in bro? If private pty, are you allowed to rent out your HDB? I thought you have to stay in the HDB and rent out the private pty.

I never considered renting anything residential under $5K as good investment, if you are renting out at $1.5K and collect three months up front and the tenant ruins your flooring, the $4.5K security bond would not be able to cover the damage, worst if they default on payments and you are actually in a negative situation if the tenants break lease and damage your furnishings.

In fact residential rentals are a very "iffy" investment.

Never thought so much lah.. it's a bloody HDB flat after all. For a 5k rental, I suppose you're looking at an expensive private condo in a good location.

I never do anything that's very difficult to undo. So I would never spend too much money on renovations. Just like no matter how nice I think a particular tattoo will look good on me, I'll never get it cos I know couple years down the road, I will think it's the ugliest thing ever.

good advice bro  but what about tattoos in places you wouldn't get to see? for example, at the back of your neck, etc...

Is it worth it to buy a leasehold apartment?
Or should we always push towards freehold?

bro,

depending on local laws and how much money the individual has.

i'd love to own a freehold by the country side, alas there isn't really any country side apartments for me to own in Singapore. like what bro pia had said, this dream can only crystalise if we ventured overseas.

But what if I have nobody to leave the apartment to when I die and only buy the apartment for own stay. Is there a difference between buying leasehold and freehold?

heheh...

i have the same issues... bro, and i was even thinking about getting hitched or something... you dare get hitched in Singapore with a typical ah lian? no offense, but i know there are some nice Singaporean girls out there, but really rare... :o

back to your question, i reckoned there wouldn't be much difference 'cept the pricing of the apartment per se. i'd choose a cheaper one and i've decided that if i have no one to bequeath my assets, i'd set a will, sell my assets and donate that full sum to the charity when i die. :p

Most charities are not worthy and deserving of what we leave to them.
If you want to do some good, it's better to go and find individual cases who are worthy and deserving.
Otherwise, just deplete all our assets to zero and let the government take care of us in the last years, hehehe.

Hello everybody,
So all that rental is pure profit after another 5 years. Remember, your rental is liquid cash.. flat appreciation is still trapped in your CPF.
