Does anyone know if Matland has similar red tapes like Thailand where you need to have locals as shareholders, or that the locals must hold majority shareholding ?

Could Singaporeans who worked freelance go in and out of Malaysia to work without having to apply for a work permit ?

For example, if you're an aircon technician, are you allowed to just drive into Johore to clean an aircon, collect your fees and return to Singapore ?

In msia, any foreigner that collect proceeds for services performed is subject to witholding tax.
Anyway, why would anyone employ sinkieporean to service aircon in msia?

As for setting up a Msian company, its fairly easy. Get help from the local Corporate Sec. They'll be able to set up one easily. Mind you, corporate tax in msia is anal.

I had a contractor friend who did this and made quite a good pile of money for years. However, during one of his entry, a friendly immigration officer ask him why he frequently visit Malaysia. My friend told him that he is a contractor (as there are tools in his car). The friendly immigration officer then chit-chat with him for a while (e.g. like number of years he had been doing this, etc).

At the end of the conversation, the immigration hinted that my friend could be charged for working without permit. He calculated an estimated amount based on the number of years my friend had worked in Malaysia and asked if my friend would like receipt for his offence. As no receipt is at least 70% cheaper, my friend opted for it.
