Young married couple trying to rent a house, why is this so painful?

General

My spouse and I are currently in the BTO waiting game. In the meantime, we're looking to rent an entire place, somewhere that feels like our home, even if it's temporary.

The search has been more challenging than expected.

Finding the right listings is harder than it should be Even after filtering for entire units, room rentals still show up regularly. It makes the search feel a lot noisier than it needs to be, and you end up spending more time sifting than actually finding. Exhausted.

Some listings aren't quite ready yet. A few that looked promising, followed the link to WhatsApp agent - turned out to have no photos, no floor plan, and uncertain availability. It's a little disheartening to get excited about something and then find out the basics aren't there yet. Exhausted.

The agent conversation can feel a bit transactional. Some agents quick respond with a long checklist of questions right away, asking for nationality, occupation, gender, pax, work pass, lease start date, lease term, and more. I understand the information is useful, but when you're just starting a conversation, it can feel a little overwhelming before any rapport has been built. Yet, when I just provide a every info in a sentence, they replied "please fill in accordingly". hahaha exhausted.

I get that agents have a job to do, but it’s so annoying. I’m just asking basic questions "is this unit include furniture" and they’re already demanding my whole life story and documents before I’ve even seen the place. It really feels like landlords in SG are kings and we’re just lucky to even be considered.

BTO is already a long and tiring wait. I didn't expect the rental search to feel just as heavy.

If anyone has had a better experience or knows a smoother way to navigate this, we'd love to hear it. Still searching, still hopeful.

To get a rental flat /house from HDB is as difficult as strike 4D

If you are the landlord, tenant have problems serving their bargains. So if tenant is foreigner, it is easier to evict them. Because the authority will assist you. However, if it is a Sinkie tenant. It will be a hassle to resolve. It may take months. Can't blame landlord being selective. On the hindsight, most Sinkie own a house as long as he/she is a normal person. Those seeking rental are usually problematic generally.

At the end of the day, landlord just want to have problem free rental. Avoiding Sinkie is one of them altogether.

Y marry a poor man? Just be a play mate for riche mans. Better roi.

rich men got too many charbors to piak every night, no ration to top her tanks ... poor men got all the time at night to piak nonstop than pcc in toilet, she can shiok shiok every night ... so she finds it better to marry poor man to enjoy. :whistling:

Rent for 99 yrs but pay upfront Pappies way of life tat make em filthy rich.
Our government makes it very difficult for young couples to marry and have children. The difficulties is getting a balloted BTO flat, then waiting time is 4-5 years for a flat once balloted.
The young couples try to rent a flat from HDB while waiting for the flat, but it is more difficult than striking a ToTo or 4D..
Then government bring in immigrants on the basis of sinkies producing lesser babies
