PAP is just a household brand name to Singaporeans. Nothing will ever change.
Ranting a bit about something concerning. MY girlfriend has been really upset about the recent hike in the retirement age. The funny thing is, she didn't realize that the Minister for Manpower, Tan See Leng, is actually her own MP whom she voted for.
We got into it, and she called me a hater, defending her vote by saying the PAP gives us CDC vouchers. I rebutted by pointing out that the money for those vouchers comes out of our own pockets anyway.
It really feels like a huge chunk of voters here just vote for the "brand." Sometimes I joke that even if Kim Jong Un took over the party, people would still blindly vote for the white shirt.
Does anyone else feel like political awareness here is lacking like fr??? Not to generalize, but I have friends working gig economy jobs like food delivery who voted for the PAP simply because they see them as the "default good" option.
Singaporeans really DGAF. We continue getting fked by them, the boomer generation , and the new citizens.
I am also extremely disappointed with the boomer generation cos they grew up with the leadership of LKY and conflate the PAP of the past and present as one same good thing.
It is impossible for the PAP to be relinquished, at least in my lifetime. This country is hopeless.
Don't even get me started on the recent NS parliamentary debate.
*Edit: After collecting my thoughts, we don't really need to relinquish the PAP. But, we what we do need is a new PAP that understands and fight for us. (Until then, I won’t vote for them)
The party after all is just a party, a symbol, a logo, whatever you name it. It's who within that influences change. It's has been such a fkin shit show from the oxley saga, low TFR, transport issues, NS issue and more.
If PAP continues being the ruling party, then i hope there is a beacon of light somewhere in the party, in the future, who truly listens on the ground. Cheers
