Mother’s gambling addiction is ruining my family. I need help, what should I do?
GeneralI am 19 and my family(just me and my parents) is completely broke and losing our home because of my mother’s severe gambling addiction, pyramid scams, and loanshark debts. Over the past year, we had to sell our family home and got evicted from two rental places because she gambled away the rent money. This constant stress ruined my grades and forced me to pause my studies. Despite having no money, she still forced us to spend thousands on a holiday just weeks ago and expensive meals to pretend we are rich. Right now, our rent is completely higher than my father's take-home pay, so we are losing money every single month. My mother has drained all our cash, and I even had to borrow hundreds of dollars from my own friends just to help my father pay for his basic work travel, so now I am in debt too.
To make everything worse, my mother has refused to come home for more than a week. She is currently at the casino gambling right now, trying to win money to pay off the debts she owes her friends. She completely ignores my texts, but she keeps calling and messaging my father to demand hundreds of dollars at a time. To force him to send the cash, she explicitly threatens suicide to emotionally blackmail him. I have begged my father countless times to apply for a Family Exclusion Order to legally ban her from the casinos, but he completely refuses to budge. He is paralyzed by trauma and fear because he genuinely thinks that if he bans her or stops sending money, she will actually commit suicide. Because he is trapped in this fear loop, he keeps sending her cash, which just goes straight into the casino and drains our final survival funds.
I am completely exhausted and I need to step in before everything collapses. What can I realistically do right now to handle this situation? Are there legal ways I can protect my father and myself from her debts? How do I stop this cash drain when my father is too paralyzed to say no? Any local Singaporean resources, advice, or guidance would mean the world to me.
