Making one's way out of a crowded bus is an onerous task so nobody wants to move too far in, and I seriously do not blame them.

If the door for exiting the bus were relocated a bit down to the rear, rather than its current central position, commuters would likely move towards the back of the bus, without the driver's instructions to do so.
