If any conflict breaks out, these countries will task their navy with keeping the straits of malacca open. We don't need to do anything. Just let the superpowers protect us. They have to keep the shipping lanes open or they will die themselves. We acquired the subs because if you have a sub squadron, you can appoint 2 or 3 SAF scholars in there to command it, another dozen or so lower ranking scholars. That gives work to the scholars. Plus the kickbacks are substantial to the MIWs.

talking about sunda straits and straits of malacca ,certain historical flacts comes to mind...it seems the ancient malay kingdoms had straits of malacca pretty much covered and protected ...even the mighty yuan dynasty with 30k men undet kublai khan got whacked nice and proper
