God forbid. A racial riot in Malaysia will be as dark as hell. The chinese with a reduced numbers would not stand a chance when the Malay runs amok. Everyone including BN or DAP and the chinese themselves should do all they can to prevent an explosive racially-induced riots from happening. China, with its excellent relations with malaysia may just give a token comment. The US are not interested and tiny Spore cannot do anything.


Look at the May13th riots, the chinese resisted ( with Indians help) initially but the ferocity of the Malays rampaging across KL were too much for the chinese who were not accustomed with the fighting nature of the Malays who keep coming. In a majority chinese Spore, the 1964 racial riots also see many chinese casualties. My uncle still recalled with fearful eyes. Hundreds of chinese were killed in the KL riots but analysts suggests the official numbers as 2-3 times more, mainly chinese casualties.

In fact the 60s was not the first time the country faced riots. There were widespread anti-chinese riots immediately after the defeated Japanese army left Malaya during WW2. The Malayan Communist Party guerillas came down from the jungle and slaughtered alleged traitors, both malays and chinese. The Malays fought back violently against the guerillas and anti-chinese riots occurred. Matters settled after the British arrived but the Sino-Malay relations were very strained.

However, Malaysian chinese enjoyed relative peace after the May 13th riots until today while Indonesian chinese faced riots every now and then.Hopefully things will settled after all these protests and the chinese will continue to live peacefully in Msia.

The situation is never linear. If UMNO overplay its hands, and a racial riot erupts, it may actually be net detrimental to Malays as the Chinese will accelerate their exodus and the world will shun Malaysia for their racial violence. We shall see how many Malays are content with simple lifestyles.

After the 1969 GE, the Chinese opposition supporters applied for a permit to have a procession to celebrate the success of their party's results..

The late Tunku was adamant that no permit was to be issued as he feared trouble would break out between the Chinese and the Malays on the streets.. But to the anger of the Tunku, the then DPM Razak gave the go ahead for the Chinese to have their procession.. The Tunku suspected that this was done behind his back..

In short Razak betrayed the Tunku to oust the latter from power and to elevate himself to the top post.. True enough, trouble did broke out between the Chinese and the Malays resulting in the Tunku's departure as the PM of the country..

Crafty cunning Razak achieved all these with the help of then then CM of Selangor Harus Idris who also played a major part in orchestrating the May 1969 racial riots..

The most saddest man was the Tunku who years after the riot told an aide that he was very sad that his beloved Chinese and Malay citizens fought among themselves.. That racial riot left him quite a broken and a disappointed man that his most trusted Deputy betrayed him..

Isn't Najib, Razak son? the May 13, 1969 riots at 'chee cheong kai" area, was told to me verbally over coffee near that area a decade ago..this is 2013, we are seeing the same fault lines appearing again, which will spillover to SINgapore. We cannot allow these Malaysians ( mostly Chinese) to hold their protest here..we are sending a wrong signals to the Majority race in Malaysia, who thinks we are sheltering & promoting these people.

In the first protest, the police should have taken a very firm action...not wait for a bigger second one to happen. If the Malaysian Chinese can do this..what about the rest of the Foreign Talents we have here??:p

Actually the Malaysian Chinese like the discriminated Jews have been tempered by the fire of racism and are doing very well in Malaysia despite not having much in outright political footing and more proportionate to their contribution and presence. Malaysia is resource rich and the opportunities are still are aplenty. They now like the Jews who control Washington in more ways than one.

The chinese in malaysia are more successful than most of the other races and control the majority of Malaysian economy. Thus they were also economically richer as many succeeded in businesses. The few Chinese in the malay dominated civil services esp in the police force were holding high rank. Many chinese students who were awarded varsity places in the govt state universities do very well. The traditional chinese culture in Malaysia is very vibrant, even more so than Singapore with its govt-supported chinese schools. They were doing very well in all levels of Malaysian society.

Its call playing chicken. Let see if UMNO or the Malaysian Chinese will back down first. Who has more to lose, UMNO or the Chinese?

I think the Chinese have past a point where they think that they have less to lose as compared to the cronies of UMNO. There is only so much the Chinese tribe can take. After more than three generations in Malaysia and still treated like new immigrants. Either pack up and leave or fight it out.

Besides UMNO playing its racial cards, what is also worrying is whether Anwar can continue to incite the chinese to do more even drastic ways to fight for their rights and may ignited the malays' anger and fear. Already there are some chinese who start to question whether it is worth for the chinese to abide by every Anwar calls which if is obviously to his personal poliltical ambition. Of course the DAP feels alright as it is a political party trying to get as many political advantage it can do and ordinary Msian chinese concern is secondary.

It is difficult for the millions of chinese to have an exodus. The few rich will leave but the majority will stay and suffer. Unfortunately, the world , not even China are particularly interetsed in the chinese problems facing southeast nations and Malaysia, including its government will still live their way as it is. (China was the first few countries to congratulat Najib and had excellent military relations with Msia and today even assist the Indonesian military make weaponry and the US has just resumed military sales to Indonesia.) The Malaysian government might even attract rich Muslims, esp Turkish into Malaysia to offset the chinese.

Thus, it is to no one interest to have a racial riots and the chinese will be the biggest loser if such things happened. BN should not allow itself to be used by extremists like Utusan and Perkasa and the chinese should be wary of Anwar's every moves. It takes both sides to maintain harmony in Malaysia.

Yes, Razak the father of the present PM Najib.. Home Minister Hishyamudin is his cousin..

Funny thing was on that particular day, Razak went to the Tunku's residence to have a short meeting.. The Tunku then overheard a phone conversation between Razak and someone whom the Tunku guessed to be the Police Chief..

The Tunku thought that Razak was speaking to the Police Chief on other matters that day..

It was only years later that the Tunku realised that Razak actually gave the green light to the Police Chief on the phone that particular day in the Tunku's residence to issue procession permit to the Chinese..

It was a clear cut betrayal by Razak who purposely ignored the Tunku's earlier instructions not to issue those police permits for fear of racial violence..

I could clearly see that progress was in the air. I also realised that many had returned for CNY from the 4 corners of the world with some with Ang Mo wives. They were from the generation that were packed away to overseas locations by their parents when Malaysia introduced Malay based education in early 1970s.

We visited new housing estates including affluent neighbourhood where the Chinese had the biggest mansions all bright and new.

What I found out that was the many from subsequent generations are returning after their studies and a few years of working overseas to return to get their share of the pie.

But at the same time, they want political recognition, want to contribute and not be treated as second class citizens in a country have always called home. It also explains why those in Singapore want to retain their citizenship.

True indeed.

Having been very successful in many aspects, the malaysian chinese are no longer contented with just economic roles. They want to be recognised as equal citizens and treated as one. Instead of mass exodus as some might think, the chinese knows that Malaysia is a land of plentiful wih excellent opportunities. In the 50s and 60s during the tumultous period, the chinese were so afraid of the threats by UMNO to send them back to China that MCA was form to prevent this. It is indeed true also that Malaysians chinese in Spore, no matter how long they stay here will never give up their Msian citizenship. They know they will have a better life in Msia than Spore.

A few of my Msian cousins joke that their prospects in Msia is better than spore as they have to compete with equally crafty business-minded chinese Sporeans than the simple Malays in Msia who are an easy lot.... thus even if they dislike the BN, many like the fact that the malays in Msia makes life more easy( but not necessary politically fair)...they can do small businesses such as traditional handicrafts and traditional food along the roads and coffeeshops( ch 8 programmes) without much hassle from the Malay government compare to Spore. They can also better preserve their traditional chinese culture and language in Msia where there are no restrictions such as religious festivals which can stretched on for many weeks n months. Many of the chinese owned a slightly more expensive foreign car and lives better accomodations. In many ways, they knew Msia as a land of better opportunities.

Thus , many Msian chinese knew Msia is still the preferred country for themselves and their next generations. They came to work in Spore and elsewhere for better economic incentives so that they can have a better life in Msia in the future. This is roughly the hopes of chinese immigrants everywhere. But what transpire between them this Msia GE2013 where you see the chinese openly clamouring for BN defeat is still unknown. Some said the social media play a very important role within the chinese community while others suggest the role of a charismatic Anwar as reasons.
