Buzz from magic
By: June Cheong
What do you do to keep fit?
I jog, do weights training, go for dance classes and capoeira training twice a week. But I guess the thing that keeps me on my toes is when I am performing magic like when I am jumping in and out of boxes or being submerged in water.
What is your secret to looking so fabulous?
I believe that to find joy in work is to find the fountain of youth. Being a professional magician keeps me active mentally and physically and that keeps me looking young and fresh.
Has there ever been a time when you were not fit and fab?
I have always been very active but I was a chubby kid until my teenage years. I loved carbohydrates like pasta, pizza and bread.
After learning that my body was not really carb-tolerant, I cut back on such food and I naturally got into shape with my active lifestyle.
What is your diet like?
I love eating lots of fruit and salads. Recently, I have been trying to eat more white meat and egg whites.
What are your indulgences?
I love chocolate. My other indulgences are ice cream, peanut butter and an assortment of cheese and crackers. Ha ha, now you know why I have to stay active.
Do you count your calories?
I tried counting calories and kept a daily log. That did not last more than a week. It made life more complicated. Anyway, my mum always tells me that if I eat sensibly, I will be fine.
Do you take supplements?
I take vitamin B complex, vitamin C and fish oil. I take vitamin B complex for good digestion and healthy skin. Fish oil helps with fat loss.
What is your sleep routine like?
I have an erratic sleep routine because of my rehearsals, magic performances and hectic travel schedule. I can survive on four to five hours of sleep but I prefer getting six hours. When I sleep more than six hours, I get lethargic.
How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance?
I am not entirely sure what I have now is a healthy work-life balance. Sometimes, I focus more on work and other times I focus more on life.
When I am working on a production, I have to admit that I do not have much of a life. But once that is over, I try to take a short break.
When I am not working on big productions, I feel that I have a healthier work-life balance and am able to find time for family and friends. I guess, overall, I do achieve some form of balance.
What do you do to relax?
I find going for dance and capoeira training a form of relaxation. Sometimes, I find my brain overloaded with too much information and I cannot seem to focus or come to any solution. Going for such classes always helps to clear my head and it definitely gives me an adrenaline boost.
What are the three most important things in your life?
God because he gave me my life and I want to fulfil the purpose he has for me. My son because he is my pride and joy. My family because I am forever grateful for their undying love.
Would you go for plastic surgery?
No. I hope to grow old gracefully. But then again, I might change my mind 20 years down the line. We shall see.
Do you think you are sexy?
I have never seen myself as sexy. I guess that is because that is not how I portray myself.
