However, the situation with Cambodia is different, as they have sought mediation from the UN, China, and United States. This is a significant departure from the approach taken by Indonesia in a similar border dispute several decades ago, which was successfully resolved through internal mediation.

Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to accept Malaysia as a mediator in efforts to resolve the border conflict between the two countries, Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan said.

He said Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand’s acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai are expected to arrive in Malaysia tomorrow evening to discuss a resolution to the conflict.
