The body found in the Hyundai Avante that rammed into a concrete barrier at a junction along Upper Bukit Timah Road on Jan 20 was that of the driver of the car, Mr Hee, 27. His body was so badly charred that identification was only possible by his clothes.

A STOMPer witnessed the accident which happened at the junction of Hillview Road and Upper Bukit Timah Road at around 5am. Lianhe Wanbao reported that the driver of the Hyundai had grazed another car which then stopped by the roadside.

After rounding a bend, Mr Hee crashed into the barricade and the car burst into flames. Passers-by tried to help but the fire was too intense and even melted the windows of the car.

Mr Hee was said to be working at a bank and had attended a gathering with friends before the accident. He had also been planning to take a test to be a qualified property agent, said his elder brother.

HE WAS burnt beyond recognition while trapped in his car early Sunday morning after crashing into a concrete barricade.

The driver is believed to have lost control of his vehicle and skidded. It was drizzling and the roads were slippery at the time of the accident – 5.10am – when he crashed his Hyundai Avante into the barricade at the junction of Hillview Road and Upper Bukit Timah Road.

The car burst into flames.

The man, known only as Mr Hee, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, in yet another fatal road traffic on Saturday night, a woman died and three others were injured when a taxi went out of control.

One of the passengers, a 58-year-old woman believed to be a Chinese national, had head injuries and was unconscious when she was taken to the hospital.
She later died in the hospital.

seriously this is getting too common. ask yourself what are all these young people doing at 5 am on a weekday when they should be sleeping: obviously speeding???? typical crap driving. usual scenario is a youngish 20-30 year old guy with a new licence , less than 5 years experience driving in early hours of morning at1 -5 am making hell of a ruckus with their souped up hondas or subarus tin can cars(when they should be sleeping) and speeding probably and crashing his car at some area near pubs. alwasy a few cases a month . Typical incident is the Ma Chi chinaman speeding at 3 am at rochor road and killing 2 other innocent people. it is bad that they killed themselves and anguish thehir parents and worse if they knock down and killl some innocent bystanders or motorcyclist as in a few recent incidents or the zebra crossing incident . in some cases of such accidents if the cdriver survives , get at most a fine and a ban for killing a pedestrain. so much for all the newbies who think they are F1 drivers. the law for speeding and killing someone must be change to manslaughter as in some countries like USA. if the person is drunk and killed some bystander he should be jailed for life.

Just thinking if he could have lived if he stopped his car after grazing the other car (which stopped at the roadside), or was he fleeing coz of alcohol

May be the car lost control. To be burned alive is the most cruel form of death. Sad to hear such a news.

I think he was drunk.

The body should be easier for combustion if the alcohol content in the blood is high enough.

Perhaps....coz he rounded the bend & upped the barricade after grazing the other car. Dunno whether his car has the auto opening of door locks in the event of accident but yeah, bad way to go...

This is really scary. How is it a car can burst into flames so easily? From what the stomper wrote it seems he saw the entire accident, from the initial grazing of another car to the car bursting into flames. It is indeed the worst form of death to be consumed by fire. Many on the World Trade Center towers preferred to jump hundreds of metres to their deaths than to wait for the flames to consume them alive.
