Videos - Fears for End of Iconic Cinema

<iframe src="http://www.bangkokpost.com/multimedia/vdo/285524/fears-for-end-of-iconic-cinema/embed" width="635px" height="385px" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" ></iframe>

Plans by landlords Chulalongkorn University to demolish Lido Theatre to make way for a 1.8 billion baht shopping mall at its Siam Square site have been met with dismay by moviegoers – some of whom have been watching films at the three-screen cinema since it opened in the 1960s. With operator Apex Group’s lease on nearby Scala Theatre due to expire in 2016, some Bangkokian moviegoers fear the loss of the city’s charismatic cinematic institutions (along with 100-baht movie tickets) – and being left at the mercy of soulless and expensive multiplex cinemas for their movie fix.
