More than 10 years ago while traveling in Thailand I came across a half-boiled-egg maker, bought it for like $1.50 at that time and been using it to make perfect half-boil-eggs.

It comes in 4 parts, the egg container ; the base ; the filter (in case egg crack and some egg whites comes out) ; cover.

The container has a hole to allow water to slowly drip out

This is how it looks when fully assembled

Notice the above photo there are 4 lines, we need to pour hot boiling water to these lines depending on the number of eggs, 1 line for each egg.

As I am making two eggs I pour hot water to the second line like this

And I wait to prepare my toast and bowl and butter etc and when its ready

Voila! Perfect half-booil-eggs

I came across some Singapore families having this but in my 7 years in Thailand I've never come across any family who have this, funny ya?

A very good looking half boiled egg.

How long did you put the eggs inside the boiling water?

or is it until the water has been dripped out, then it will be ready. The timing is just right?

Oooops KNS I forgot to tell everyone, wait till all the water drip away the egg is perfect after that.

Yes this is the critical thing, the designer (I assume is Thai) has designed the size of the hole for the water to drip into the base perfectly timed so that once the water finished dripping through the eggs will be perfect.

Thanks bro for asking, shucks how could I miss that.

Eggs must be room temperature or can be straight out of fridge?

I wonder if this is available in Singapore now, definitely not seen it anymore in Thailand. Got to go office now, bye.

Eggs are a cheap form of bulking sia but probably not very wise to do it too often.

nice yummy eggs!

must be room temperature. they'll crack in the hot water if straight from fridge.

tonychat is an ovo-vegetarian.

Malaysia has it. ( In KL too, haha)

While not impossible, it seems to be rather difficult to make the perfect half boiled eggs in a regular pot of hot water. If I absolutely have to, I would let the eggs sit in hot water for 3.5 minutes and I would get something very close to it. But my mom was kind enough to buy me a half boiled egg maker from Kuala Lumpur, so I am going to let the tool does its magic.

Tonychat you eat eggs????? What a barbarian!

To me this is not a true vegan behavior. More like sinkie behavior. Want to act saint but still steal eat.

It's good to eat half boiled eggs cos fully boiled eggs can be quite difficult to peel sometimes. You need to put salt inside.

It works just as well when eggs are from the fridge. This contraption can be found in JB.

you can cook perfect half boil egg without this. Put your eggs in a pot of water. Not boiled or hot, just from the tap will do, put it over the stove to bring it just to boil. This is the crucial step, just bring it to just about boiling point, then immediately remove it from heat and let it sits. Half boiled is 3min, fully boiled is 6min. The idea is to use residual heat to slow cook the egg. Patience is the key here.
