Peeping Tom spied on woman changing in flat

SINGAPORE - He was first caught with his hands on his crotch while peeping from a corridor at a woman changing in her own HDB home.

The man continued his crime spree by stealing a pair of shorts and then, while out on bail, he misappropriated about $1,000 from his employer.

Yesterday, Hamzah Idil, 32, a store supervisor with fashion and lifestyle group F J Benjamin, was jailed for 10 weeks and fined $2,000 for his offences.

On Sept 17 last year, he loitered at an HDB corridor and peeped into a woman's room through the window louvre.

The woman, who was changing, was completely naked.

He was noticed by the woman's boyfriend, who was on the first storey of the block.

The boyfriend rushed upstairs and took two photographs of Hamzah in the act before confronting the Peeping Tom.

A scuffle broke out and Hamzah got away.

Police officers tracked down Hamzah two days later based on the descriptions given by the boyfriend.

While Hamzah was being investigated, he stole a pair of shorts and was arrested on Oct 21, 2014.

Even after that, he continued to break the law. While out on bail this year, he misappropriated $1,077 from his employer.

Between March 14 and May 20, Hamzah would issue a duplicate receipt to customers using a previously issued receipt and pocket the payment.

DIDN'T TALLY

He did so after running into financial difficulties due to his earlier failed business.

He thought he would not be caught as his job scope included checking the cash register of the Superdry outlet at HarbourFront.

His offences came to light after a customer noticed that the receipt she was issued did not tally with her purchase.

He has since made full restitution, court papers said.

Yesterday, Hamzah admitted to one count of insulting the modesty of a woman and one count of criminal breach of trust, with the theft charge taken into consideration for sentencing.

For insulting the modesty of a woman, Hamzah could have been jailed up to a year and fined.

For committing criminal breach of trust, he could have been jailed up to 15 years and fined.
