嘉義縣遭逢823水災，已泡在水裡3天的東石鄉西崙村高姓喪家，不僅水淹靈堂，還因水患進退無路，已蓋棺卻無法出殯，不得已向外求援，卻因民間禁忌處處碰壁。25日好不容易在嘉縣水上救生協會協助下，一行人步行8公里將親人棺木涉水運出，但家屬仍因水患無法送亡者最後一程，亡者妻子遠遠望著丈夫棺木在水協人員護送下離去，無奈與悲傷全寫在臉上。
告別式辦不成 無法出殯
亡者妻子說，原本已選定24日即農曆7月14日出殯，卻因突如其來的水患，導致告別式辦不成，因丈夫遺體已按規畫放進棺木，原本想等水退了，再將遺體送到殯儀館暫厝，但昨天氣轉晴，擔心遺體不耐久放，焦急的家屬透過葬儀社輾轉尋求幫忙，到處商請出動大卡車或貨車幫忙運棺，但昨聯絡長達3小時，都沒有任何人願意伸出援手，就連東石鄉公所也以目前以發送物資及救災為重捥拒。
最後好不容易接洽到水協，水協理事長呂文正說，當時得知家屬有這項需求時，他二話不說就答應，昨送完物資後，便與3名隊員共4人，步行涉水約4公里前往喪家，經向死者焚香參拜並與家屬溝後，決定將棺木包覆帆布防水放在輪架上，再涉水護送靈柩走出淹水區，交給喪儀社載往火葬場停棺室。
錯過最後一程 家屬遺憾
協助運棺這一路來回就走了8公里，但呂文正一行人不覺得苦，也毫無忌諱，指這是他第一次協助運送棺木，加上最深水深及腰，「很有挑戰性，卻是很有意義的任務」，護送過程中他心中默念，願亡者一路好走，只是亡者家屬就連送往者最後一程都無法陪伴，恐成心中最大的遺憾。
此次水患，東石鄉全鄉23個村庄無一倖免全被淹，直到25日仍有6個村落未脫水患之苦，東崙、西崙、掌潭等4村落聯外道路全被水漫過，災民寸步難行，掌潭村甚至因水位愈來愈高，在其他村落居民陸續返家時，全村百餘戶昨下午被迫撤離，居民只能無語問蒼天，無奈問水患的恐懼何時才能遠離？
